Grapefruit Seed Extract

Hope I am in the right area.... I looked around and this seemed to be the best fit.

I was helping a friend deal with thrush a couple of months ago. While researching alternative remedies, I discovered GSE. Everybody extolled the numerous and varying health benefits.... not only that, apparently it is a multipurpose, ecologically concious cleaner! Wow! I was sold!!

I went online to get specific directions so I could put my bottle to use immediately. The only problem is that I find lists of things GSE is good for but I can find none that give me exact quantities and doses. Do I ingest a few drops mixed with water? Do I gargle the same mixture? How many times a day is this to be repeated. And cleaning? I have read it is a great disinfectant. What do I do?

The stuff is potent. I don't want to over do it. Does anyone know of a resource (website, book, anything) that would tell me exactly what I can use this stuff for and how? I would be so very appreciative.

I put 5-6 drops in my juice for us big people and 2-3 drops in the kids juice.

I would google "using GSE" and go from there

On the bottle I bought, the front and back labels peel back to reveal a TON of instructions for various uses. I don't know the strength of the GSE you have, but the bottle I have has 100mg of GSE per 10 drops.

HTH!

I have a bottle of citricidex. It looks to be a differing concentration than the nutribiotic. (.8ml GSE per 1/4 tsp.... I am no math major and I don't know how ml and mg compare but my serving size is bigger than yours so I suppose yours is stronger....makes sense, right?) I wish I would have gotten your brand because they seem to have the most specific directions I can find online.

The good news is that while searching around some more, I found more than one book on GSE. I looked on Amazon and there is a used copy of "The Healing Power of a Grapefruit Seed" for less than $2. I think I will snap it up. Only 2 reviews, but they are good ones. Sounds like a comprehensive resource that will spell out the answers to my questions.

Does your library carry any books on the subject?

maybe not so good a product?

Hi, I am dealing with a possible yeast infection and was looking for natural remedies. I found an incredible amount of hype around GSE both here in the forums and on various distributors' websites.

I was about to order it and use it for multiple health, household and farming purposes, when my SIL sent me some info including a link from the holistic moms network that advised that GSE is actually not a natural product at all, that the seeds and pith of grapefruits do not have antimicrobial properties alone, and that the antimicrobial effectiveness of Citricidal (the active ingredient in GSE) is really from trace amounts of ammonium chlorides and triclosan among other nasties that are used in its manufacture and remain in potentially harmful levels. The USDA did a study that concurs with this info. :

Check out the Wikipedia.org page on GSE and decide for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit_seed_extract

Here's the first article I referred to: http://www.terressentials.com/truthaboutgse.html

Anyway, back to tea tree oil and altered diet for me and babe I guess...
