I need ideas that I can go into the vet with. Our 5 year old yellow lab has had eating/digestive disorders all her life. We adopted her about 6 months ago and the previous owner has a well documented trail of vet visits trying to figure out whats wrong with her too. We took her to our vet and she said the dog was healthy, but just really skinny. I don't believe its just a skinny dog thing. She's been tested for worms, x-rayed etc.
We found a good combination of food that works best for her digestion issues so she's not throwing up all day... but she still does puke on a regular basis. But its a HUGE improvement instead of 10 times a day puking. Its always white and frothy with lots of mucus. She eats, pretty slow, and then starts heaving and pukes it up. If she drinks much water she pukes it up faster. Wet food is best though and leads to less puking. As well as foods without corn base and small sized.
Recently shes really concerning us though. She seems to be losing weight and there isn't much to lose. Its a weight roller coaster with her and we feel like we are always losing. We've always been able to see her ribs but she looks soooo skinny right now. The vets always insist that as long as she IS eating, pooping, peeing and otherwise healthy that it is fine. But this is just too skinny for comfort. She loves to eat, but she is always miserable after. Other vets have suggested just putting her down. At what point do you say enough is enough and go with that decision? Not to make it easier on us, but so that she doesn't suffer any more?
We've tried feeding her smaller amounts several times a day, not working either.
I need ideas for what could medically be wrong with her that I can bring up to the vet that we could look into. Perhaps someone here has heard of something like this or suggestions? Its like with my kids, I just know when something is wrong even when everyone else thinks its fine. She is not fine but no one has had an answer for us yet. No answer has always gotten us the "Oh, she's fine" response or "Put her down"
