weird food thing...

my whole life there have been two foods that i do not like. bananas, and cilantro. there are other things that i dont care for, but these two ingredients always disgusted me. i love food, and cooking, and i tried and tried to give these foods a chance. it always bummed me out to see people enjoying cilantro so much because when i ate it, it tasted HORRIBLE. bananas were not so bad, i could eat banana bread or even a frozen banana coated in chocolate (somehow being frozen neutralizes the banana flavor)... but just bite into a banana... no way.

here is the weird thing. last time i was pregnant i started craving bananas. finally i ate one, and i liked it. i craved them in the first year of breastfeeding, too. i can still eat them... not my favorite but i dont hate them anymore.

so we went to the flea market yesterday, and i was suddenly famished. had to eat right that second. mr kitty grabbed a few tacos from a stand for us.... chopped meat covered in onions and cilantro. i didnt care. i ate it. and another. and it tasted like... nothing. a slightly more flavorful parsley. not a trace of the horrible, metallic, soapy, vile "cilantro" flavor. my husband was shocked. so was i.

WTH?

i think its kind of cool, too... and i hope it lasts. id love to be able to order a burrito with salsa. i only eat salsa that i make myself, because of the darn cilantro.

Oh the joys of pregnancy! At least this "symptom" is a true "joy" and not a sarcastic joy!!

Eat it up! I'm also not a big fan of cilantro, but as long as it's not too much, I'm okay with it.

haha... Yep, I can't eat eggs (cooked, not in baked good etc). I can't smell them cooking, I can barely look at them cooking, makes me feel yucky. The thought of them cooking makes me feel sick sometimes. My mother says the only times she got sick with me in utero was when she was cooking eggs (otherwise she likes eggs).

You can bet I've been eating scrambled egg beaters with cheese like there's no tomorrow. But gah, I can't stand eggs -- I still feel weird eating them

I have a banana and cilantro dislike as well. Bananas I do crave when pg, but don't eat them not pg oh and if you cook them, put them in fruit salad, smoothies etc........blech I really don't like them pg or not. Cilantro I have never developed a taste for it....<shudder>! I am jealous that you can eat it now!! PG is definitely weird! With my first son I craved Red Apples and spaghetti....two things I really disliked before him and now I can eat them no worries, I even crave them sometimes which seems totally whacked to me!

I was a chocoholic, befire pregnancy - now, I don't have ANY choco cravings.
Poor DH, stocked up on these European chocolates that I used to adore, and ate them all (with help of friends, of course).

I don't feel like eating bread at all, occasionaly I have naan bread, or tortilla.

P.S. bananas and avocados were only 2 things I could it when morning sickness hit me

Interesting effect... I used to despise cilantro - that gross taste. Turns out I was allergic to it. After allergy elimination treatment now I love it - that weird taste is completely gone, and I actually buy it at the market now to add to my food.
