Anyone else trying to keep their weight in check this time? - Page 4

I gained about 65lbs with my first and I am not hoping for a repeat performance. I was put on bedrest and almost induced (but ended up with an all natural birth!). This time I am watching what I eat better (um, minus my Taco Bell cravings...) and exercising. I am training for a 5K and I'm not about to let this pregnancy stop me. I am also still nursing. I'm hoping the exercise and nursing will balance out the Taco Bell, but we'll see. I did lose the 65lbs and was back down to my pre-pregnancy weight before I got pregnant again.

yeah, i would love to try and gain the recommended, "reasonable" amount this time around, for once, but to be honest, i think my body just needs extra pounds. i m 5'6" and tend to stay right around 120 at all times, other than pregnancy. with my first, i gained 50 lb., and was so determined to keep it down the second time, even though i had no trouble losing it-- it just bugged me. well, no go-- no matter what i ate or how i exercised... i gained 65 over 8 months, with my daughter! i am a big first trimester gainer, and i am doing okay so far. i figure i was 120 pre=pregnancy, again, and over the past couple weeks, i've weighed in at 125, 119, and then 123. so, who knows? lol no big deal, i guess, but i would love to say that i only gained like, 30, this time. not expecting it, though...

Is anyone else keeping track of their weight? I'm 8 weeks and have gained 4 pounds already.

I managed to get to the gym yesterday and weighed myself on their scale--I've lost 2 lbs in the past month or so. I think that's okay. I've been trying to eat lots of protein and eat pretty frequently, and have cut out a lot of sugar/refined carbs. (Except for today, when I've had two cans of Vernors ginger-ale, which just was the bomb!!)

No scale here, so I'll just have my monthly weighins. Though I have been soo hungry lately...

I love this thread! I gained 55lbs with DD, and was only 110lbs to begin with so it was 50% of my body weight! I hated it, and though I did lose it all within 4 months afterwards, it was very very hard work and I'd rather control what i'm eating through this pregnancy than be in that position again.

The problem is, I'm craving stuff already that I normally wouldn't touch, like fatty pies and junk food. So far i've been *fairly* good at avoiding the cravings, I'm eating lots of fruit to compensate - apples, bananas, cherries and grapes are never far away. I'm also eating a lot of cereal - helps with the m/s which is more like all-day-queasiness.

Even though i've only put on 1lb so far, my body shape has definitely changed already, and I was hoping to keep that under wraps until 2nd trimester =(

One question - I've noticed many of you eating peanut butter - over here we get told not to touch peanuts when pregnant. And I love peanut butter, so are you guys told it's ok to eat peanuts?

loulie- You'll find a lot of us roll our eyes when the dr. says "Don't eat _____."
There might be a problem if a) your family has a peanut allergy history b) you are eating a jar a day. Otherwise I think you are safe.

So how is everyone doing thus far? I keep toggling the same 4 lbs (199-202,) but all my clothes are tight like I've gained 10-15 lbs. I'm noticeably pregnant and my BIL yelled out twins yesterday while I was trying to pick what dress to wear for my grandpa's funeral today. Both make me noticeably pregnant. One was about 7 months pregnant and the other was about 4 months pregnant so I chose the one that was 4 months pregnant LOL

Diet has been in the can because of nausea. I'm hoping by second trimester I can get back on the road again.

I've never heard of such a thing! Peanut butter is a great source of protein, especially if you aren't into eating meat...plus good fats...why do they tell you to stay away from it?

I agree with Mommy2Austin: it's probably a good idea to stay away if allergies run in your family. If not, eat it in moderation like everything else. That said, some doctors are telling women not to eat it at all, while pregnant OR nursing, because of the increase in and severity of peanut allergy in the US (and possibly elsewhere?). (This is not terribly helpful advice for women on WIC, who get pb for free.)

I'm 7 weeks and have gained 0 pounds (however, I gained 10 pounds in the 9 months it took me to get pg). M/S has set in, so I'm eating a lot of cheese and crackers. Fruit and yogurt still sound good to me; I'm trying to get up the strength to go to the grocery store to get more!

In regards to eating peanut butter... apparently the AAP has changed it's stance... you can read about it, with sources linked, here...

I've been weighing myself everyday and it does seem to vary depending on what I eat the night before, if I snack late, etc. I tend to bloat a lot!! It seems like I may have gained a pound or two so far. I'm 10 weeks today.

I'm so with you on the weight thing. It was all good and "fun" the first time around, but awful when it came to losing it, so I'm determined not to let it happen again!!

I think the PB is okay as long allergies aren't prevalent. I ate a lot of PB the first few weeks. It's a good source of proteing too!

My first weigh in was 146, so that's down 2 lbs since my last pap and maybe a pound or two gained since getting pregnant. I feel like I haven't down as "good" the last few days so I'm sure today I'm up!

Have a good day everyone!!!

I think I'm going to quit worrying about weight gain. I've already lost three pounds.

Interesting. Though I'm the very worst about that. After 6 months I gave DS whatever he would eat. He grabbed a slice of garlic bread off my plate 2 days after his 6 month birthday and went to town. We haven't looked back since. Not a single choking incident or allergic reaction....

Thanks Gracerenee - just goes to show, there's me stressing about peanut butter, and yet I had no idea about the eggs suggestion, I gave my DD eggs from about 6 months! As there's no allergies in my family I shall definitely indulge

That said, I've had an awful day today. I'm really suffering with bloating by then end of the day, and have to undo my work trousers. When i showed DF he very unhelpfully pulled up a photo of me at 40 weeks last time, with a comment along the lines of, you don't want to get like that again And I don't want to get like that but I just thought, for goodness sake I'm doing my best, I can't help that my body is changing!!!

awwww I am sorry he said that to you. Just keep doing your best. Now is not the time to be restricting or losing weight! You are a good mom though, you will be just fine. Also, you are going to be gaining 25 lbs at least so tell him to shut it
