need accurate medical info about natural retraction

My DH is concerned because DS1's foreskin still does not fully retract at age 8. I assured him that this is normal, but I am having trouble finding accurate medical info to back this up. For example, the Ask Dr. Sears website says most intact boys are fully retractable by age 3, which sounds crazy to me. Can someone direct me to a website with more reliable info?

My DH was forcibly retracted at age 4 (with local anesthesia), and he always assumed this was the normal medical treatment for intact boys. We will NOT allows our sons to be retracted, fortunately we have had great luck in finding anti-circ doctors in the Midwest!

Thank you for your help...this forum has been a wonderful support for me over the years!

The quote you got from Dr. Sears is outdated. Newer studies show that only 50% of boys are retractable by age 10. Retraction is a sexual function so it isn't something you need to worry about until AFTER puberty. Puberty hormones play a huge roll in the development of a retractable foreskin as they replace the fiberous tissue with more elastic tissue. Please read this thread it has all the links you need:

I haven't done any research on it. All I have is my personal experience with DS. He didn't fully retract until he was about 7 1/2.

I personally wouldn't worry until he hit puberty. But have no research to back my hypothetical lack of worry.
