May 2007 Toddlers ~ Summer thread! - Page 2

We've been having some bad 2 year old frustrations the past couple days too. Is there a full moon or something? DD has been extremely demanding. All day long whining/screaming wanting me to do things for her. Things she is capable of doing herself but she's freaking out crying. Both kids have been incapable of occupying themselves for even a second and to top it off DD has been waking up early and skipped her nap yesterday! I thought I would loose it! I've got some teething drops, chamomile drops and rescue remedy and I think I need to use them.

Please help me
Sure, but I'll warn you, I'm not a fan right now and suspect it will get worse as current and upcoming changes in legislation get moving. Summers off isn't the only reason I want out. Anyway, I'll PM you with my address.

This is exactly the relationship that Sam has with his older brother (about 2-1/2 years older) plus biting. Knock on wood, the biting is getting better as we practice using words instead, but they definitely go at it still.

It has been a long time, thought I'd check in. K is doing good. He keeps me busy! DD didn't have half his energy when she was 2. He is pretty good as long as he has an outlet for it, but if he gets bored, we're in trouble.
He is potty trained, except for naptime and at night. We have the occasional accident, which is usually at grandma's when he's outside playing and doesn't want to come in.
He is a climber too. He likes to drag kitchen chairs across the room to get on to the counter. He did that a few weeks ago when he was PLing and peed up there :

Not necessarily...K is talking in sentences, sometimes 8 words at a time.

Bumping our thread! Any updates?

Norah is seriously into painting and water play right now. I must stop giving her cups. She just wants to dump water everywhere!

We had a bad couple of weeks with her not wanting to nap. I started giving her Bach Rescue Sleep at naptime and it has helped so much!

Seb is doing well. He is adjusting to having a little brother. He's been going to swim lessons and is a little fish.. he loves swimming!

Kayleigh loves swimming too (and her little brother!) and we are going to do Teach your Toddler to Swim in the fall. She's interested in actually swimming now, loves to hold the flutter board and kick but regular lessons don's start until they are three so we figured we'd give this other class a try in the mean time.

She is also SUPER clumsy these days. Not a day goes by without a new scab on her knees and elbows She's been growing so fast that her motor skills can't keep up I think (1.5" in the last 8 weeks).

We're headed across the country to visit my parents for a while, anyone live in Montana? we'll be spending some time in Columbia Falls, Great Falls and Missoula on our way there and back. Emily? You around somewhere? We're headed to the waterslide resort in Duluth on Aug 23/24, come down if you're free! (you have to stay in the resort to have access to the slides unfortunately.)

Seb is too advanced for his toddler class now too, but is too young for the other swim lessons. His teacher is working with him one on one though since the class only has 4 kids in it this time.

Have fun on your trip! A cross-country trip sounds adventurous! We drove from SLC to Vancouver last spring and it was a bit challenging!

Hi mamas! One of the cutest things that Kylie has been doing lately is using all these funny gestures when she speaks. She also makes this little like tongue clicking sound and says "ummmm" when she's answering a question. It's so funny, she's like mini teenager right now with her gestures and little mannerisms.

I've been a little bit worried because Norah recently started making a "k" sound and she repeats it. She will make the "k" sound several times in a row in the middle of a sentence and she acts like I'm supposed to know what that means...? It's strange! Almost like a stutter.

She also likes to sit down, sigh and then say "actually..." lol. She picks up a lot from her older brother.

Seb is doing great! He started preschool in August and loves it. He is super smart!

Is anyone's 3 yo still nursing? I weaned Seb a week after his 3rd birthday- it was my doing, I am sure he would still be nursing if I hadn't initiated it.

Oh wow, there are still a few of us here!

Kayleigh is not still nursing, she gave it up in feb or so? just shy of three years.

We aren't doing preschool this year, probably not next year either. We're looking at homeschooling pretty seriously and K already knows all her letters, numbers, etc and is working on reading and adding right now, seems like a waste to put her in preschool and it's very expensive here. Instead we've enrolled her in dance, swimming and gymnastics so she gets the benefit of the peer interactions, having to follow rules and instructions etc and the added benefit of a much needed physical outlet.

Anyone else have a kid that wants to graze all day? She refuses to eat at meal times but 15 minutes after dinner she'll say she's hungry and wants a snack. If I keep her dinner out for her (or lunch or breakfast) she'll revert back to "i'm not hungry" for 15 min, then repeat, ad nauseum. Eventually she gets the picture and will eat her meal, sometimes.

So glad to re connect with a few of you!

Norah is nursing once every 1-2 days. Just colostrum now.

We've been attending a preschool co op once a week for about 18 months. So she gets to see the same 8 kids every week. She really enjoys it. I still plan to put her in some classes of her choice, which I think she choose gymnastics and dance.

We're also going through some meal time issues. Half the time she will inhale her meal or one portion of it (usually just the meat) and then 15 mins later wants a snack. Sometimes she picks and doesn't want any meal and then of course begs for something else (which I don't do). I remember DS going through this as well. I just allowed him to eat whatever whenever.

Seb's preschool is a spanish immersion preschool.. if it were just a regular one I'd skip it, but I thought it would be good to get him exposed to a different language at a young age.

Seb also grazes all day long. Then when it comes to dinner time, he never wants to eat his own food- but will gladly eat the food off our (mine or DH's) plates.

And OMG the WHINING!

I've started telling K that if she is whiney that means she needs a nap, that cuts the whining off pretty quickly, but not always. 99% of the time she doesn't nap any more... still not sure it was the best idea to quit the naps but at the time it was the only option.
I'm so glad N still naps. Every day, 2-3 hours. She gets really bratty if she doesn't get it. She will do things like take a pair of scissors to her brother's artwork... She would never do that otherwise.

Mostly she screams/yells/whines when she's playing with DS. Drives me bonkers but they aren't actually fighting. I suppose whining is all she can do when he's got 60 pounds on her. It's a huge battle to remind him constantly to be respectful of her.

She keeps wanting me to cut her long hair off because she doesn't like to have it brushed. I'm really torn on what to do with it.
