Great Nap music / Lullabies

I have really been getting into selecting music to listen to with my baby when she comes. I saw this forum was for books, music and other media, but I don't see much music discussion going on, so I thought I'd start one. For me, music is such an important part of setting a mood and tone for what should be happening at certain times. I like finding music that isn't necessarily made for kids but is great for them as well as me. I have worked as a nanny and in preschools for about 8 years and music is one of my favorite ways to create an environment for kids.

So anyway, here is a place to tell us your favorite artists, albums or songs to play during sleepy times or mellow play times!

I'll start us off. Here are some songs I love to use as lullabies, with links to videos on youtube when I could find them:

Joni Mitchell
Night Ride Home
Both Sides Now
Ladies of the Canyon (video is the Annie Lennox version, which is great too)
Dawntreader
Song to a Seagull

Cat Stevens
Into White
The Wind

Emmylou Harris
Little Bird
Shores of White Sand
Sailing Round the Room

Jeff Buckley
Hallelujah

Kate Bush
Prologue
And Dream of Sheep
Lord of the Reedy River
Under the Ivy

Joanna Newsom
Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie
This Side of the Blue
The Sprout and the Bean

Patty Griffin
The Rowing Song
Kite Song

Lorenna McKinnit
The Lady of Shallot
she really has too many nice ones to list.

These days I have my playlist on www.pandora.com and baby Lorelei (3 months) has her own. Mine is based on Joss Stone and the like and hers is Chevelle.

She loves Chevelle.

Also when I want something without vocals, I turn to this guy:

Adam Hurst

He is an amazing cellist here in Portland that plays at local outdoor markets and stuff - I have seen him play a few times and it is completely spellbinding. He writes all his own stuff and it is influenced by all sorts of traditional eastern music but he is obviously classically trained. The cello is such a romantic sounding instument and what he does with it is just awesome. I LOVE it for naptime music. I've seen kids walk by him when he's playing and they just get hypnotized on the spot. He has clips from all his CDs on his site.
Here's a video too

I love this local artist Josephine Cameron. She sings folk/Americana and she has this one cd "Close Your Eyes" that is a collection of lullabies. I love it for myself and my sister says her kids love it to mellow out at the end of the day.

You can listen to/buy songs here;

Global Lullabies by Freyda Epstein is beautiful. It is a compilation of lullabies from around the world. I don't know where you can listed to it online, but I was able to get it from my public library - after checking it out so many times, I ended up just buyig it It will NOT disappoint...
