How do I get a religious exemption

We are a vegan family and we just moved to Nevada. In California they allowed the personal/philosophical exemption so no problem. But here they only allow medical or religious.

We don't belong to a recognized religion, although with our veganism, we hold those beliefs as strongly as a religion. The school wants us to have our "pastor" or other minister of our religion sign our waiver, but we don't have one.

What do we do? Need help fast!

I believe you can join UU online and they will sign it for you. I will check when I'm not NAK if noone else gets ya first.

While you are waiting on additional info RE: UU, I would show those requesting a signature the following exemption info from your state:

"NRS 392.437 Immunization of pupils: Exemption if prohibited by religious belief. A public school shall not refuse to enroll a child as a pupil because the child has not been immunized pursuant to NRS 392.435 if the parents or guardian of the child has submitted to the board of trustees of the school district or the governing body of a charter school in which the child has been accepted for enrollment a written statement indicating that their religious belief prohibits immunization of such child or ward."

NO MENTION WHATSOEVER of a signature required by a pastor or anyone else other than the parents or guardian of the child. I would ask where this requirement is stated, and for written proof. That will either give you more time for plan b or make those making the request realize they are out of line.

Hey Erin! I'm in Las Vegas, too. They cannot require you to have a waiver signed by a member of the clergy. I hope this helps.
