Checklist for problem prevention

Thread Starter
I don't live in a very foreskin friendly area and I would just rather do everything to prevent problems from happening, rather than having to give the, "Circ is not an option," speech 50 times.

So could someone give me the comprehensive list on how to prevent foreskin problems? I already know some of it I'm sure, such as no retraction, give acidophilous if antibiotics must be given, baking soda baths for separation irritation rather than running straight to the doctor.

Any other helpful pertinent information?

Becuase it is never performed here except for serious medical reasons, where all else has failed - rather like any surgery on a child and it is very rare for it to be doen to babies, generallly the advie we are given is , wash it and leave it. Just as you would the outside of an ear or nose.

Teach them to wash their hands.

I second the hand washing, especially as they learn to wipe their butts!

Remember to view separation symptoms as normal phases in the development of the intact boy, NOT as problems.

Keep fingernails short since fingers will get inserted in there . Avoid harsh soaps, and rinse the outside with clean water after baths (I rinse the whole child after his bath anyway.)

I hesitate giving a list because that puts you in the wrong mind frame. By default the foreskin is not going to have problems, so thats like making a list of all the ways you could be killed walking down the street and trying to find ways to prevent it.

If your looking for health and hygiene habits for boys, that will keep them healthy, then I would say its not much different then what you do with girls. Little girls face many of the same genital health issues as boys. Its important for both not to force anything apart, to keep the PH balance in genital region, balanced. And most importantly make sure your boys and girls shower, and wash their hands.

Problems that do develop, just like in girls, are not too big of a deal and can be resolved without surgery. You should find a doctor that understands a point as basic as this.
