Hi,

I posted awhile ago about feeling depressed while pregnant and PPD. Well my OB put me on Zoloft a little over a week ago and I am slowly feeling better well I am wondering with the medicine already in me will it help to prevent PPD? Or will I need it upped after birth if I feel worse and what not? Thanks Mama's

birth will be a huge hormonal change, so I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up needing to increase your dosage.

You might want to look into the consuming your placenta thread.

Yes, it should help a lot after the birth. You may or may not need to increase your dosage after the birth. The retention of fluids during pregnancy sometimes means the dosage is actually less than what you are taking, so after the birth the same dose might actually be stronger.

Good for you for taking something that you need to feel better. You will be very glad you did, as you can already tell.

Yes I am very glad! I was weary about taking it and am so happy I have I actually went and gardened today and have been doing more stuff with Ds the last few days like I always used to I cannot wait to see what will happen in the next week for the full effect to kick in!

I would not have thought that the same dose would be stronger after birth I am on 50 right now not the lowest as that is 25 but still very low. thanks for the information

I am so happy I had asked here a few weeks back on what to do thank you all so so much for your advice you all really have helped me!

I have been told by my doctor that it will help after. I was diagnosed after my son was born 2 years ago and am still taking a low dose. Was worried about having another baby and getting it worse than before (not sure there really is a worse) but doctor said she would keep me on and it would help!! Good for you for getting the help now, I knew in the rational part of my head I had PPD but it took 3 months and my dad almost ready to abduct me and take me to the doctor to get help. I will always feel a huge amount of guilt for the shitty beginning my little man and I had.

IME, I needed to have my meds upped after the birth. I also need more meds as the pregnancy progressed. As your blood volume increases the amount sometimes needs to change.

I waited 6 months after my second with PPD and anxiety until I went to the doctor. I am now on zoloft and it has made all the difference!

With my first I was on Effexor before, during and after my pregnancy and I was completely fine afterwards.
