Making your own moby wrap

I've seen sites that say all you need is 4-5 yards of knit fabric cut to be between 20-30" wide. I'm wondering if I can get away with buying half the yardage, cutting it in half width wise and then seaming it to get the length. Would the seam be uncomfortable? Too weak to make a safe baby carrier?

I think it's recommended that you use one continuous piece. That way you don't have the stress point of the seam.

This is from the wearyourbaby.com site:

I strongly recommend against buying 2.5 yards, cutting it in half and stitching it together to make 5 yards. This is not only a pain in the toukas, it also gives you a seam to worry about -- a weight-bearing seam, no less. If you MUST do this, then be sure to use a French Seam.

Yes, I agree. With the fabric, just cut in half if it is 45 or so inches and you will have 2 mobys. Sew a decorative fabric in the center of each and you have 2 cool mobys. GL
