Diaper Rash Treatment when CDing

So I started CDing today! Yay!
Though I admit DH has been the one changing diapers all day. I am Soooo thankful hes supportive of it even if he does say he prefers sposies so far and that CD smell more than sposies. hehehe

But anyways My LO has a little bit of a diaper rash, its just down his crack we let him sit out diaperless for a little while yesterday and today after his shower.
I also started using cloth wipes this evening.
Since I know I can not use regular Diaper rash cream, it seems as though he keeps getting the rash as long as he doesnt have the cream on...
This will be the 3rd time since he was born (6 weeks on Friday).
Hes breast fed but had some supplementing but were on over a week of no formula yay!
So i don't know if hes having an allergy to something I ate.

So how do I treat diaper rash on a CDed baby?

You can use cream if you use a disposible/reusable liner to prevent the cream from clogging the fibers. (I just hacked up some cheap fleece... if it came out of the wash stained, I threw it out.)

That said, some brands of cream are okay to use. (Mostly, just avoid anything with fish oil in it, like Desitin and Peneten.)

We love Dimpleskins BumBum Balm and haven't had any problems with it. We've also used Weleda's Calendula diaper cream with good results.

I also really like Weleda Diaper Care, but I always use a liner in my diapers with that stuff (flushable liner or fleece). I like to use Angel Baby Bottom Balm also, and that doesn't need a liner.

What kind of diapers are you using? I use prefolds - and I've used Aveeno diaper rash cream without problems. It made some pale yellow stains on the prefolds, but they mostly come out with the heat of the dryer (and after some sun, they go away completely). So, if you're using cotton diapers you can use Aveeno or probably any other zinc oxide cream w/o fish oil. If you're using pocket diapers, though, I think you may have to avoid most creams. Angel Baby Bottom Balm is supposed to be ok for pocket diapers, as far as I know. I find that it works well for mild redness, but if it's a more serious rash you'll probably have to use a fleece liner as others mentioned along w/ a more serious rash cream.

I use Lansinoh on my prefolds with no problem. I've used it a couple times on pockets and there have also been no problems.

I'm using Prefolds right now with the flushable liners from GMD.
But I look forward to using my goodmama diapers when he gets a little bit bigger.

DD is a big fan of freshly snipped aloe globs when she gets rashy It comes off super clean and sticks to her rather than the diap.

Yay for CDing! Happy 6 week bday!

if you just started cding and this is a rash he had with sposies, it might go away on it own. just change frequently, rinse thoroughly, and leave naked when all else fails...

my ds1 had horrible diaper rash from day 1. just bad bad bad. then we got him in cds around 5 mos old. first thing that happened was he got ammonia rash cos i didn't rinse thoroughly. then everything went away altogether. it wasn't until he went back to sposies that the rash went away, and then he was in daycare and they would not touch the cds... but one of the benefits of the cds is their less irritating to most babies. so i would see if it clears up after a few days and then start thinking diaper rash creams. i think most cd sites that sell diapers also sell creams that are ok for use with cds. we used grandma el's. i don't know what it has in it but it worked really good for the ammonia burn, and when ds2 had a bit of a rash when he started solids, it cleared that right up too.

we use burts bees. it doesnt make them repel, but i have had issues with staining. my dd has a rash pretty often too. i think its just because bf'd newborns poo so much.

My LO gets a diaper rash every time he poops! I use Grandma El's diaper rash and remedy and it is totally CD safe and works really well.

we use california baby diaper cream-- it works great with cloth diapers.

Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm
Best stuff EVER...sinks in, heals quickly (2 applications at most), rinses clean and CD safe!

My guess is the switch to cloth will help heal the diaper rash very quickly. We love the Northern Essence products particularly the diaper rash salve and Better Butter Balm.

We use PinxAV on DS. It stains the diapers (pink but otherwise doesn't seem to have affected them.

what about using cream on Bum Genius 3.0? Just wondering.
