Musicals. Our DS, 20 mos., loves music. Music on TV will stop him in his tracks. When dialog starts, he moves on to something else.

Tonight we went to friends' house for their movie night. The Debaters is what they were watching. DS wasn't in the room much, as their daughter took him to play in the other room. But when he was in the room, he enjoyed clapping after the debaters finished talking, and after a scene where there was arguing. I think he is cued by the music that something dramatic has ended and it's time to clap.

Oooh I just thought of another one...an oldie but what about "Darby McGill and the Little People"? ( LOL Well. I liked it as a kid. A little weird/corny maybe. )

Black Beauty (the most recent one)
Black Stallion
Sea Biscuit
Man From Snowy River
The Pursuit of Happyness
The Story of the Weeping Camel
The Cave of the Yellow Dog
Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles
Door to Door
BBC productions of the classics
Nature Documentaries

Some of those are foreign. Some may have an intense scene or two or a bad word or two but I think safe enough for a little one who won't be paying much attention.

My Friend Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service are oft-recommended here. DD LOVES Totoro, but wouldn't watch Kiki the one time i tried.

She liked Shrek.

There's lots of stuff we watch with her in the room, mostly sports though, I guess. She's horribly bored by baseball and finds things to do by herself instead.

We just watched Madagascar 2 and it was pretty good but a little scarier than the first one.

Also, have you seen the Kids In Mind ratings? http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ Very detailed content analysis so you can make an accurate judgment of what it will be.

Yeah, Mary Poppins, and Fragile Rock are entertaining and calm.

The Secret Garden

Oh, and for adult stuff that won't bother her... yeah, older movies, and foreign films.

Pride & Prejudice - the Keira Knightley version is the most recent although any version is probably tame because it's based on a book written in the 1800s.

Monsoon Wedding
Bend It Like Beckham
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Charlotte's Web
The Wizard of Oz
Wallace & Gromit claymation films
The Sound of Music
The King and I
