help me buy a sling for my neighbor's shower!

she says the following to me:

As far as the sling, I would love one! The bjorn is for David—I hate those things. I do still have a Maya wrap, but found I had to wait until Courtney was older to use it; she just seemed so lost in it when she was new. If you know of one that's great for tinies (and doesn't necessarily require a class before using!), I would be grateful! It's a wonderful thought, and a lovely gift. Thank you.

help me, mommies...what should I get her?

thanks

I'm gonna recommend the Ring Sling. I love that carrier for newborns and up (until they are super heavy- my shoulder at that point isn't happy). Its easy to get baby in, out and very easy to get adjusted to breastfeed. It was the only sling I used when DD was a newborn. Actually, it was my first sling. It was really easy to get use to. I didn't find it overwhelming at all. I still use it at 15 month for quick trips into the store or when we are having one of those up and down days.

Yeah but I don't know the quality of that product. I tend to stay away from carriers that are carried at Target/Walmart/BabiesRus/whatever. I would try to buy one from a WAHM. Thats just my opinion though.

I know the Maya wrap sounds like a wrap, but it's actually a ring sling, so sounds like she's already tried that kind and found it didn't work for her...

I'd recommend a mei tai. It is basically a square of fabric with straps at each corener, you tie one set of straps around your waist, sit the baby in the body, cross the top straps across your back and tie in front. I started wearing DS in one when he was brand new. We used a babyhawk, but there are other brands. Check the 'Asian carriers' section on www.thebabywearer.com forums for more info and some suggestions of good brands.

I'd also recommend staying away from the big box stores and see if you can get one online or if there is a specialty kids store in your area.

I totally knew that!
I just wanted to add that if she plans on breastfeeding and has bigger breasts, it is nearly impossible and defiantly hard to breastfeed in them, IMHO. Could her RS have been to big for her making it overwhelming? I am not a huge fan of pouches but perhaps she would be happy with one?

Reading the original post, I was going to say pouch sling. I used a Mamma's Milk one a lot when my guy was little and I really enjoyed it.
