I'd be mad, if it wasn't so absurd!

I told my dr. that I wanted to check my kids' titers before we decide on getting boosters. He said he would check to see if they do that at our hospital. (we are military) He called back the next day to tell me that I need to get my youngest unvaxed child vaccinated. (where did that come from..we were talking about my older kids who had been fully or partially vaxed) Anyway, I asked him about checking their titers and what he had found out. He replied, "I am not going to do that, if they are not immune then they will have to get poked twice, and I am not going to do that!"

LOL!!! So, lets just go ahead and inject them with crap even if they are already immune??? How smart is that? This was a pediatrician!! He wouldn't even check into it for me! If our military hospital/clinic doesn't check titers where could I go to have this done?

Also, my 17 yo has started working at the base and is around military cadets all day. (military cadets are extremely vaccinated and probably newly vaccinated) My 17 yo was vaccinated as a kid, but hasn't had any boosters (and we haven't had titers checked yet), so should I be worried about him "catching" anything and bringing it home? My other kids are partially or non vaxed. I was just wondering about this! Thanks.

Re: where you can get titers checked if military hospital won't do it... you should be able to do it at most labs, I would think. Try calling a local hospital lab or an independent lab (Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp are nationwide, I think).

She tells you how to get your titers checked.

I just want to point out that titers and immunity are not one and the same.

A person may show high titers to say measles but be vulnerable if exposed, yet some one may show no titers yet not get the infection.

I would never rely on titers. jmho

I've read of doctors who dish out multiple rubella vaxes for people who don't show immunity, presumably with the mindset that if one booster doesn't do it, three or four more might do the trick. Sheesh.

Re: titer pronunciation...the peris I saw here (Canada) all said "teeter" for some reason. I kept saying tie ter back to them...it was pretty comical.

Heh. I'm one who got jabbed multiple times with that one (well, the combo). No dice, doesn't work for me. Been living with arthritis for a long long time though!:

So it's anecdotal, but checking titers doesn't = proving immunity. However if you can get it done & it gets a doc off your back, go for it. And as your children are dependents, not soldiers, shots can be declined if you so choose.

Don't get mad=complain!

"Remember that you can file ICE reports online for ANY bad and good experiences you have at any military facility (military doctor, the commissary, exchange, etc.). They will always follow up on your report and try to remedy the situation. The ICE system is done through DOD and stands for Interactive Customer Evaluation."

I'd try this first (if) if you are not in a rush.

It is not his place to determine if your children get "poked" twice, if that were your plan.
