Birth playlists and HB food.

OK so what is on your birth playlist? I am starting mine, not sure what else to put on there. I have some Nora Jones, India Arie, Sarah Mclachlin and some ENYA.

Also, what did you like to eat during your labor? I didn't want to eat much. I liked popsicles. Anything you can suggest to put on my grocery list? Also when do you plan to shop for the birth food? I'm sure I could try to do it in early labor or make something in early labor. It may help keep my mind off of labor.

How about some Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Specktor, or some Feist? If you like Sarah and Norah, you'll probably like these other artists.
Also, This Woman's Work by Kate Bush is a must for labor!! HTH

I like a lot of the music she mentioned, and I really do not like Regina Specktor in general, though a few of her songs are ok. I HATE Feist. I do like Ingrid Michaelson but she's not my favorite and I probably won't listen to her stuff in labor. Also she sells out so many of her songs to commercials that I start associating them with the commercial and am sick of them. "Be Ok" was a much better song until it was ruined with that applesauce commercial, which totally missed the meaning of the song and I don't even get why they used it....

This Woman's Work is about a mother dying, isn't it? It's a really sad song. "Of all the things I should have said that I never said...give me these moments back...I should be crying but I just can't let it show...oh darling make it go away" eeep, I would not want to hear that in labor

Music is so personal though. I've seen some mamas say they are going to labor to metal or punk, which sounds like my idea of hell, but hey they were happy.

So far definitely on my list is

Jack Johnson and Ben Harper "My Own Two Hands"
Sarah Mc Lachlan "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy"
Tori Amos "A Sorta Fairytale"
Paul Simon "The Boy In The Bubble" "Graceland" and maybe even "You Can Call Me Al" though it could be too peppy for labor

I know that I had more on my list but my mind is going totally blank.

I plan on buying soft fruit (bananas, nectarines, strawberries, blueberries, melon) so when I horf -and I know I will- it won't be too terrible. Also smoothies.

I have never heard of any of those artists (I tend to be a hip hop girl but that is not very good for labor). I might put some aventura on there its very pretty spanish music. I will look those artists up. I put Elton John Tiny dancer on there. I love that song.

Eggs are really gross if you vomit. Trust me. But, you may not and they are loaded with protein and good stuff.

Ooooh, soup is a really good choice

The only thing I have decided for sure as far as food is honey sticks. I need to think about what else I want since Birth Center has a small kitchen.

For music I have zero ideas. I am not sure if I will want fast, slow, instrumental what? Ekk! I am thinking of Assemblage 23- Lullaby but I am not sure if it's too slow. Something else to think about.

Honey inside a straw type thing that is shut on both ends. You open one end and suck it out. They make it in different flavors, too. My mom and I used to buy them at the Farmer's Market.

I asked DH to create few different playlists so I can switch depending on my mood... he has yet to do it : I want to include some "up" music and relaxation music, like some Native American flute music I have. I can't even begin to think about what to include, since my music taste is so broad... which is why I gave that task to DH (he's also a budding DJ, so I thought he would have fun with it).

I was thinking about freezing some banana slices to smuggle into the hospital along with apple sauce and honey sticks.

OOOO apple sauce.. LOL Frozen bananas.mmmmmm..

With DD1, I had to put all my food in the fridge at the birthcenter so, in went the bananas and I have to say....Cold or frozen bananas are absolutely delightful in labor. I usually stick to toast, bananas, juice, water, ice, popsicles....Soup sounds lovely..

As for the music, I usually go for soft piano music or Enya or Celtic Charm or something soft that you can kind of drown out. Basically anything relaxing works for me but I do the Bradley Birth which is all about relaxation!

Oh yeah, don't eat anything that is your favorite because you may not want to eat it ever again after you barf it up in transition. If you do barf....

At Jazz for the playlist and chocolate dipped strawberries to eat.

I'll be stocking up on lots of coconut water (great for electrolytes and sooo tasty!) fruit and yogurt for smoothies, homemade ice pops made with raspberry leaf tea and honey and who knows what else?

As far as music goes, most of my playlist consists of a band called Animal Collective...really varied music that i've imagined giving birth too for years!

I might have some mellow Brian Eno on there too. I'm thinking I'll work on the playlist during early labor...it will give me something to do

No music for me. I want silence. Learned that the hard way with #1
I think that was my only drama queen moment when I couldn't have any noise around me at all.

Food, not sure yet. Definitely a lot of fresh cold or frozen fruit as it will be mid august. Anything that can be blended for a smoothie and keep me going.
I am not a big honey fan so I will have to get my sugar some other way.

no idea about food as i have never actually wanted to eat during labour anyway, but i wil have on hand an assortment of easy snacks and fresh fruit/jucies.

as for music. i am having 30 Seconds to Mars, My Chemical Romance, REM, Fall Out Boy, Lostprophets, and maybe (depending on the time, who is there and how i am feeling) Marylin Manson. or we willl stick Kerrang on the TV and be done. to be honest i dont think i will care what im listening to in labour. or i will be there, in the pool, singing my head off, sounding like a deranged cat.

I am LOL about the deranged cat thing.. HAHA...

Music really helped me relax with Abrielle. I totally zoned out on the ball listening to.. UMMMM.. was it country? I think it was. EXH put it on the tv and I believe it was country. I didn't care at the time.

I did tell DP to have mints on hand. A LOT OF THEM. I told him to hand them out at the door. I tend to really get angry if people have annoyingly stale breath. HAHA
