Another Cat Pee thread - new house, bad smell!

We just got a new (to us, built in 1930) house with a partially finished basement. Summer is heating up, and the basement is starting to smell strongly of cat pee.....the areas in question are carpeted, and I think the carpet is glued around the edges rather than tacked. I have contacted the owner to see if the cat had some favored corners for expressing feline angst, but otherwise, i'm not sure where to start....The carpet is newish, and I am reluctant to rip it all out unless I really have to. Help! We usually spend summer months sleeping in the basement to dodge the heat. ick.

An enzymatic cleaner, something like nature's miracle. Saturate HEAVILY. That will break down the urine.

To find the 'areas' use a blacklight as urine stains will glow.

Bac out does the best job but rubbing alcohol works too and is a lot cheaper. I had to dump half a gallon of rubbing alcohol on my basement carpet once but after the alcohol evaporated there was no more cat pee smell!
