I am so happy to say that at 31 weeks and some change I am now out of the care of my OB and won't have to birth at a hospital! We are going to be seen by a midwife and have decided to go to a birth center for our birth.
This whole pregnancy I've had this ball in my stomach about the birth and dreaded seeing my OB who is always so quick to push me out the door at our visits. It was always such an impersonal and cold feeling being at my OB's office. And anytime I brought up anything regarding natural childbirth or a birth plan she was sort of roll her eyes at me. Now I'm sure she is a lovely women and doctor but we just were never on the same page.
After much thought both my husband and I thought we would just bite the bullet and see what the true costs would be and if we could afford to for go the hospital birth and have the water birth I've dreamed of. Low and behold, we may even end up spending less on a birth center birth than what our out of pocket expenses would have been at the hospital.
We had no idea our insurance would even cover any of the midwifery expenses and they cover up to 60%! Gosh, insurance companies are hard to get answers out of because when I called at the begining of our pregnancy they told me that they did not cover midwives. I guess a little persistance is all it took.
We met with a wonderful midwife at a birth center on Monday and I cried after out of pure happiness and relief. And now, I find that I'm looking so forward to this birth rather than dreading it.
