Popular diaper brand made in HongKong? - Page 2

I clearly have a diaper store and my husband works at a baby store (that doesn't sell diapers, lol) and we have discovered that many products that say "Made in the USA" were assembled here from foreign parts and materials. There are lots of customers who come in wanting only USA products, until they see the price. Then they don't care. Reading on MDC, you'd think that everyone bought USA, but in reality, most people don't care. You can do whatever your ethical structure permits - for me, my issue is a product that WORKS. There is a very well-known brand of diapers that I simply will not carry b/c they are garbage and their service is even worse.

FWIW, the brand you are not naming still does very well, Hong Kong and all.

Lead poisoning is something that is very real to us, both my oldest children had severe lead poisoning when they were younger. I try very very hard not to buy anything that is not USA made if I can help it. This doesn't mean I don't ever buy things that were manufactured over seas, it just means I try not to when possible. So if I had the option, I would not buy the overseas diaper unless I had researched it very very well.

I look for the best quality product I can find. That might be made in the US or overseas. It might be a WAHM or it could be a factory. I get a good product and I believe rewarding quality, service, and innovation are better for the economy.

I don't like outsourcing, but I'm also too broke to afford most of the stuff that is made in America. Ultimately for me it often comes down to a choice of not buying a product at all (which isn't exactly an option with diapers) or buying something that has been made overseas. It's just a sad fact of our econemy right now. If I had more money, I would certainly work hard at buying locally, but I just can't afford it right now.

In terms of how that would effect you, I can tell you that if I went to a website that didn't sell the product I was looking for (for example, Bum Genius), I'd simply shop somewhere else.
Sad to say, this is where we are right now as well.

I wish I could stop buying stuff made in other countries, but most of the time I can not afford to do so.

I rarely buy new but when I do it is rarely made in the US. :

Thanks for all the opinions. It really is a hard call to make, and many times buying overseas is unavoidable. I certainly have to be careful about my money these days, too, both personal and business. But I really want to support the U.S. economy when I can. We don't buy foreign cars here, either. : )

And other things, like the prefolds I sell, I know are made under fair labor conditions, so I feel ok offering them. Many of the good quality wraps and slings out there are made overseas, and I will probably likely carry some of those. I guess I'll just have to feel through it on a case by case basis and do the best I can!
