I think it's up to you what kind of milk you give them, if any. In our house we went with cow milk. I started giving my older dd cow milk around 15 mths of age, even while she was still bf. She didn't take to it quickly and only would drink a bit until probably age 3. She never liked whole milk, only non-fat (what dh and I drink) so we got her going on that and then slowly upped her to low fat. I tried goat milk at first w/my younger dd b/c she had problems digesting cow milk while I was bf (I couldn't eat any dairy until she was 6 mths old, and then only a bit of yogurt or cheese until she was 10 mths) but she never liked it. I probably gave her cow milk around age 2, and like her sister only drank a bit until age 3. My girls are now almost 10 and 7.5 and doing great.

ds eats dairy, but doesn't drink cow milk. He eats almost exclusively organic dairy (with some exceptions like at a resturant). When I am not around ds i do NOT pump, he nurses when we are together and doesn't when we are apart, no problems with that. He eats food and drinks other beverages (almond milk, soy milk, water, smoothies, tea, etc)

so you can introduce dairy (yogurt is often more tolerable because of the present enzymes) and still nurse when you are together.
