Artist Trading Cards-ATCs

Is there anyone here who makes and trades Artist Trading Cards(ATCs for short)?
I have been creating and trading ATCs for years and I just today noticed this Arts & Crafts forum here at MDC.
Below is a brief description of what ATCs are and the history behind them:

Artists’ Trading Cards or ATCs, as they are frequently referred to, were initiated in 1997 by Zurich artist M.Vänçi Stirnemann, as a means for artists to share, and socialize with other artists. But with today’s technology, internet trading groups have added a whole new dimension. With a modem and ‘snail mail’, one can share artwork with other artists from all over the globe.

Essentially ATC’s are miniature works of mixed media art using a wide variety of materials to create them. What makes it fun and interesting is that this is meant for everyone. All levels of work are welcome. The main goal is that they are created with the idea of sharing them with each other.

But ATC’s themselves do have rules. The only rules being that the small works of art are,
(1) to be exchanged and not sold, (2) that they must be 2 ½ X 3 ½ inch or 64 X 89 mm in size, (3) that they be made out of heavy weight card stock or other similar weighted materials(recycled cardboard makes a great base for ATCs!)and (4) that they must be signed, dated and named by the artist.

How you design and decorate your cards is totally up to you. They can be as unique as you are, just as in any other art form. You are free to paint, draw, print, do wax resist, add fibers; trinkets... the possibilities are endless! Now get out there and create art, but be a part of a whole art world of its own.

If you want to see some examples of ATCs, here are a few ATC gallery websites:

And if the ideal of creating and trading ATCs appeals to you, I would love to start a swap group here on MDC.

This is so cool. How have I never heard of it. Now I'm going to be up all night checking out the galleries. Then I'll be back with questions.

Hi Again,

I am bumping this thread again in hopes of sparking some interest in starting an ATC swap group here at MDC.

I've always loved this idea! And after a Valentine swap my daughter did last year I started really thinking about it.Do you think posting in the swap section would get more people?

Anyways, I'd be interested.I know a few people who might be interested but they're not on MDC.

I'm interested.

I've been making art cards occasionally. I've never traded them before. I don't really consider myself an artist. Just a dabbler. But I do adore art cards, and I'm willing to swap.

Hi Readermaid(and anyone else who is interested),

I would be very interested in organizing a swap here on MDC.
Shall we pick a theme, medium, and how many cards we want to swap?
We can exchange addresses via private email once we have a few participants.
And we can wait until after Thanksgiving if that would make easier to get started.

Take Care,
Erika (I don't wear a fro, I'm just a sister who likes this smilie!)
