Prefold Question

I think I want to start switching our stash to mostly PFs and covers, as our current stuff wears out. We currently have pockets and fitteds. I want to keep some pockets for nights and DH but PFs just seem so much easier and more economical!!!! I have covers I LOVE (bummis) so now I just don't know what prefolds to get. I have a newborn stash of KL 0s, so would I just need premium and toddler sized? How many covers if I plan to just lay the diaper in, not pin it? Is it worth it to buy the more specialized sizes from GMD? Any other stuff I should know???

I bought some for a friend from Little Lions - even with shipping cheaper than others and great diapers! I got 12 regular and 12 clearance (seconds) and only one of them had a sewing flaw! I really like their unbleached Indian Prefolds! They are having a sale right now. I've bought prefolds from mtdiaperstore.com and abbyslane.com and now Little Lions - they have all been great (all Indian unbleached). Little Lions also has a capri size - I'd take a look at those too!

For 8-15 pounds I'd get 36 infant sized prefolds (minus what you have)
for 15-30 pounds I'd get 24 premium and 6-12 toddler for nights/naps.......

I never really used the snappi unless I had a wool pull on cover - the bummis work great without it! Although for runny newborn poop - you'll want a tight diaper!!! Snappis are great for a tight fit and under not so tight covers. My DH even figured it out!

Thank you for the info!!! I really like my KL 0s for the newborn stage because they contain the runny poo so well I am hoping they will last through all our babies since they tend to only get used for 6 weeks or so. I definitely like the looks of the unbleached indian PFs!! I don't mind a little extra bulk, like from folding them down in front, I just want stuff that is going to last!!!

I love the sized prefolds from GMD. I'll be buying the organics for the next size up.

I have heard really good things about them too which is why I was wondering Could I skip the newborn size since I have the Kls?

I'd skip the orange edge (newborn) size if I were you--my baby was born at 10 lbs. and they were already a bit small. He's about 12 lbs. now I'd say and fits into the yellow edge infants just fine. They're really nice diapers, in my opinion; the unbleached ones are so soft! (I have the 2008 version.) The bleached ones are nice too but if I'd known how much softer the unbleached ones were, I'd have started with just those.
If you want to try used ones, or compare some different brands for cheaper than new, head over to diaperswappers.com; lots of people resell their diapers and there seem to be some good deals to be had. Part of the reason I've gone with GMD so far is they seem to hold their value pretty well, though I plan to keep all of them for now since we'll probably have another baby.

I'd also skip the size newborn since you have the size 0 in KL. My all time favorite prefold are the willowpads organic hemp/cotton/fleece prefolds. They are SOO soft and thick and just wonderful. I'd probably get about 36 in the premium size in those.

How many kissaluvs do you have? I wouldn't skip orange edge but then again dd left the hospital at 6 pounds 2 ounces. We used them for quite a while and now as doublers and burp clothes. I loved having diapers that she didn't swim in!

If you already have KL0's, I would get regular and toddler sized, and skip the premiums.

GMD brown-edged fit PERFECTLY trifolded in medium covers. My girls fit in mediums at, like, 2 months-- ha ha. Since then, we have used GMD greed-edged (toddler) and we lovelovelove them. But we do snappi them under covers (medium or large).

Good luck and have fun!
