She gave me a bill and I submitted it. I had to pay her in full first.

Thanks, that's good to know. We are in the process of sorting all this out and it is nice to believe that there is hope.

Are your monthly payments that high???
in a similar situation. private health care in North Carolina. BCBS would have charged us almsot $200/month to add maternity care, we would have had to have it most probably for 2 years (must add/remove only on the anniversary date of the policy). BCBS was the only provider i could find that even offered mat care as an addition here. we passed and did the HSA too. in my opinion, HSAs are a fantastic gv't plan that lets us take charge of our healthcare. i'd recommend going with a credit union over the HSA the insurance company provides, if you can do that. no admin fees for us, and the interest was way better!

you just have to make sure you choose or change to a High Deductible Healthcare Plan (HDHP) in order to be eligible for an HSA. be careful, as this was a HUGE ongoing saga with BCBS - they told me it would be a "change" but ended up canceling our policy and forcing us to re-apply for the HDHP. i spent 40+ hrs on the phone with them (not exaggerating) escalating - if i'd given up, we'd be uninsured right now!

definitely changes state to state!

oh, AND, since HSA is a federal program and covers "medical expenses" including even over the counter pain killers, i'm just having my CPMs write up a receipt to keep on file for my taxes, and paying them with cash w/drawals from my HSA!

Just wanted to provide an update on our birth. We did a transfer for a c-section after 3 days of prodromal contractions at home only to be at 2 cm. Because the birth happened at the hospital with a doc and not at home with our midwife, Premera BCBS reimbursed us $860 out of the $4200 submitted. We are appealing.
