Two bugs I hate: roaches and earwigs. Thankfully, I've been roach free for many, many years (flashbacks of roaches falling from the light fixture when I was a little girl - Eeeeeeeeek!)
I fear for the nightmares my son may have with earwigs. We recently bought an awesome wooden playhouse for him which he loves. It even comes with a couple of sand bins (removable). Occasionally, we've seen an earwig crawling about. One came out of the phone hook in his playhouse. One fell from an awning. I hate the things, so I started to get down to business. I noticed there are small gaps where the support beams are located. Lo and behold - earwig party place! I was mortified. I took a twig and caught as many as I could in one of the empty sand tubs. I must've caught about 25 and lost at least 15 in the grass. We recently moved the playhouse to give our grass time to grow back in the last spot. I didn't think to spray down the house before moving it
Does anyone have some 'sure fire' ways to get rid of them in this instance? Basically, I want them out of the playhouse! I don't have much of a garden (though I was planning on starting one this spring) so I don't much care if they're roaming in the mulch. Also, I read somewhere that they burrow in decaying wood. Should I be worried that they're burrowing in the house?!!
My current plan of attack is to make a spray with Borax powder detergent and spraying the cracks and crevices. I also have boric acid but I'm not sure if that's bad to sprinkle in the corners of his playhouse. He's 2 1/2 yo and way beyond the stage of putting stuff in his mouth so other than his shoes brushing up against the edges or a toy touching a bit of it, I'm not sure what the dangers are. I just don't know. I heard that half full beer cans work wonders at drowning them, so I'll probably buy a cheap 24 pack tonight. Is there anything else I can do? Should I get rid of the sand in the sand tub? He loves his 'sandbox' but I can always create a mobile one for him if we simply shouldn't have one on the yard in his house.
ADVICE PLEEEEEEEASE!!!!

Extra info: If it's not the sand that's the problem, there was some decaying grass from some spots where his toys were sitting. Yet another reason we moved the house location. The grass where it currently is situated is healthy.
