ADD symptoms/behavior disorders related to dairy?

I hope this is the appropriate forum to post this.

Does anyone else's child experience ADD type symptoms after eating dairy? I swear if I give my son too much dairy, he has no impulse control, he's hyper, he plays in a disorganized way, he throws epic temper tantrums, he can't sleep. I've looked and looked and I find lots about dairy causing digestive symptoms, but nothing else about behavior problems related to it. What I want to know is WHY? Clearly dairy is a problem for my son, but I want to know why, and if anyone else has this problem. Of course, the pediatrician totally blew me off.

Any ideas or experience?? TIA!

Sorry, no experience or concrete info for you, but just a though....many kids are on gluten free casein free diets to improve their behavior and functionability. Coincidence?

What type of milk do you drink? Is it regular? Hormones? Organic?

Try organic unhemoginized or even raw milk if you can find it. See if it makes a difference.

My ds1 can't handle dairy or gluten and they cause behavioral problems w/no digestive issues.

He has major meltdowns and can be mean like he never is when he gets cows milk or a lot of foods containing gluten.

I don't care what anyone says, I see the difference and I just can't give him those foods that turn him from his normally sweet self into an emotionally raging nightmare.

I actually saw an Oprah show one day relating dairy and gluten to ADD. Are you searching natural/alternative sites for info?
Go to www.notmilk.com and in the A column you will find attention deficit disorder and it's relation to milk. The entire site is very informative.

Absolutely! There is an old Phil Donahue show back in the 90's about behavior issues and food.
I have never given my DS any cow dairy, but I have seen his behavior change with wheat.

I am a firm believer that majority of the 6 million children in the US that are on ritalin and anti-psychotics are all misdiagnosed and really should be avoiding certain foods....amongst other things.

YES!!  My son has HUGE behavior issues after yougurt, ice cream, milk, cheese.  He is almost completely dairy free because of it, and I can tell when he does have dairy because his behavior is erratic, his attitude is agressive, he is tightly wound and irritable, he is also not able to center himself, sit still, or hold eye contact.  I have done a lot of research and I do believe that it is not the best answer for protien or calcium for all people. After seeing the amazing transformation in my son, my whole family has gone dairy free and LOVES it.  There are rice, almond, tapioca substitiues for everything, and they have added calcium and Vitamins so you aren't missing out on anything.  :)  Good Luck, you are not crazy!!
