Toys r Us Worker told me to go to the bathroom... - Page 2

Thanks to both Island Mama and EmilyVorpe for posting. The breastfeeding incident was infuriating, but the fact that there response to a child being injured by THEIR display in a TOY STORE was to say the parents should take their business elsewhere was outrageous. And in light of their attitudes, I've just e-mailed their corporate office to let them know our family will gladly take our business elsewhere as well.

Duh... not again.
I agree that LLL's mission is not political activism but you never know who you'll meet at the meetings. (And BTW it's not that Leaders won't do "such things" but they will keep it out of the meetings.)
Toys R US of all places should have a bf policy - if they don't this is their chance now.

OMG You know whats sad? I'm not at all surprised about this!
Toys R Us is the worst for customer service! We went to try out a seat on our car, waited around for over an hr, finally I found an employee. Asked to try a seat, he said no. Basically accused me of tring to steal it. Tried to talk to a manager, he basically said I'm too busy to deal with you, waited another hr. Saw him again he basicallty blew me off, told me no trying the seat, go somewhere else. At this point I was livid! So I went home called corporate, never heard anything back!

It's fine to go to LLL meetings and such, but Leaders won't be your best bet for help or information. There are several other organizations, with links already posted, who DO do this kind of advocating and it's probably best to get their help and input. That will be most effective.

I would take it further. It's clear that the manager needs to educate all the employees on the law so that other nursing mothers do not have to go through that which the OP did. I doubt this would happen without a mandate from coorporate.

Good for you, OP, for sticking up for you and your baby!!!!!!!!!!!! :

Every Babies 'R Us I've been in has had the international symbol for breastfeeding posted prominently. Very strange.

This is so not their first offense. New York 2006 California 2008 I have done that last one- unharrassed.

Go to the media. It is time for this to stop. Babies R Us and Toys R Us should be the very place that breastfeeding women feel welcome. I think we should start a campaign to boycott them. All nursing mothers- buy your toys and supplies someplace else!

I feel your pain, I has something similar happen to me at the local mall, but it was a security guard that told me I had to move to the closet they call a nursing room which is in the bathroom. I told him it was against the law to tell me to move and he said he could make me move.
Its not like I was in an aisle blocking the flow of people, I was in a lounge near the bathrooms.

So when I got home I emailed the mall manager and explained everything and told him that if this was not delt with I was going to file a formal complaint with the local human rights commission.

I received an apology and he said he would talk to his staff about it.

I just can't believe that people are so ignoant.

I'm sorry you went through this

I will say that our local toys r us is completely awesome. Not only have we never had problems with breastfeeding, i've had workers offer me their chairs at the desk in the stroller/car seat section so I'd have someplace comfortable, and one once invited me to their employee lounge to get a drink and rest. When I said no thanks, he was fine with that too.

When i was the leader of our local autism society, they cold called and asked if we wanted to do a fundraiser/closed door shopping event for our kiddos at Christmas (when it's the busiest)

I would definitely write a letter to corporate, and cc the manager. It's not supposed to be that way....and i can assure you that not all stores are like that.

I am so so glad you stood up to her, that you didn't leave the store, that you sat right down and finished feeding your baby....even that you hung around and waited to see the manager....all of that was so gutsy of you!!! :

When my time comes i hope i have your courage and determination....thanks for giving up such a great example.
