I'm making a pinata for my dd's birthday a week and a half away. I already have 3 layers of paper glued and dried...how many layers should I do all together? It's going to be 4 and 5 year olds and I don't want it be to hard or too easy, kwim?

no one has made a pinata? :

I make pinatas for my kids' birthdays! We have found that 3 layers is plenty for a 4/5 year old group. I always used newsprint and flour/water glue. If you are using something different you may want to add a layer. But for us, 3 was the right amount.

thank you! I did make paste from flour and water so I guess now it's on the fun decorating part of it

I was about to make a pinata for DS's birthday, so glad I saw this. I hadn't thought about more layers making it harder to break.

I came here to look for tips and found this in the search...I have one layer and it is dried, I was trying to figure out how many layers, I have a wide range in ages of children who will all want a crack at it. We have 19 months to 12 yrs, so, I am thinking of doing 4 layers so they can all have fun really hitting it and if it's too hard the 12 yr old should be able to really give it a whack!

This is my first time making one.

DD1, when asked what kind of cake and pinata she wanted, said "A cloud" So, her cake will be a cloud and I am making a pinata cloud as we speak.

I told DH this is what happens when our kids don't watch TV and are homeschooled, they have no interest in cartoon characters...so far we've had birthday themes of...frog...butterfly...duck...ladybug (twice) and now cloud. lol:

When I make pinatas, the number of layers depends on the shape, size, and contents. Just for decoration, I make them thin because it dries fast and uses less resources. If they support something or have goodies inside, the support areas like the hanger are a little thicker, as are any areas prone to stress. Good luck.
