Picky Pants pattern question

Hi Mamas,
I need some help please. I am a newish knitter and am attempting the Picky Pants pattern for the first time. I was so darn proud of myself because I just finished the short rows section. I intended to do Option 2, just short rows and thought I'd followed the instructions. But when I started the gusset section I realized there are 100 stitches on my needles rather than 92 (for the toddler size). I have no idea how I did that.
It looks like I could continue with the second option in the gusset section but I'm afraid this will make the pants too big. My baby is about 27 pounds and I debated doing the large or toddler size in the first place. What should I do? Pull out the short rows section and start over? Or continue on with the extra stitches?
Any ideas how I ended up with extra stitches?
Thanks much.

are you sure you added them during shortrows and not earlier? I'd rip back untill I had the right number of stitches

did you accidentally work the wraps as seperate stitches (ie: instead of knitting the wrap and the stitch it was anchored on as one stitch, did you knit them seperately?) Do your short rows look okay - with no gaps or holes? If so, I'd continue on with the 100 stitches you've got. They won't be TOO big, and heck, kids are always growing anyway - if you'd had fewer stitches than you should have then I'd say rip back, but more stitches isn't such a biggie. They'll fit a bitbaggy at first, but then I'm sure your wee one will grow right into them

Thank you both for your help. I think I did work the wraps as separate stitches. I just slipped my needle through the loop covering the stitch, but if I'm understanding correctly I should have picked up the "stitch" made by the wrap so there were 2 stitches on my needle.
Anyway, I held them up to some other longies I have and they look like they will fit fine, yay! I don't see any holes and they look good (to me anyway) so I think I'll continue with 100 stitches.
Thanks again for the help!

PS. Theresa, I am loving this pattern. I feel like I'm learning a ton and they are looking really cute!
