Anyone see Away We Go?

I thought it was a really good movie all around, but they kind of made "natural parenting" look wacky, which I didn't like (although some of the scenes were funny). They had the family bed, child led weaning, and the continuum concept in there, but didn't make it look too attractive. Ugh.

I'm so curious about this movie! Does it want to be taken seriously or is it just a big silly thing? I can't take Maya R or what's his name seriously! I hope to see it at some point though. I'll probably just have to rent it later this year.

Oh, yes. Totally a serious movie, but with a bit of comedy thrown in there. Loved it!

Away We Go

Has anyone gone to see this movie?

I kinda want to go but if it is negative on the "we're having a baby" plot I'll prolly wanna pass until it's out on netflix.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm dying to! It isn't playing anywhere near me any time soon, though I love John Krasinski on The Office. I did see a clip, however, and when asked if they were using a doula, his character answered in a derogatory tone that "midwives and doula are for father's who weren't involved". I wasn't too keen on that response, but maybe you have to see the rest of the movie.

I just saw this tonight- my expectations were SUPER HIGH, so I was disappointed. But that was my fault.... not the movie's. I thought it would be laugh-out-loud funnier than it was.

I am so glad that someone posted this thread, because I was curious about the MDC mama's reactions to Maggie Gyllenhaal's character. If she was a real person, she would be on MDC for sure!!!!!! I am not very crunchy, but I was really offended by how harsh the reactions were to her.

The alcoholic neglectful mama got eye rolls and shrugs, while the extended BF, co-sleeping, baby wearing, continuum mama got.... lets just say a MUCH HARSHER reaction.

That's just brilliant!

I want to see it!
I really liked "knocked up" even though the whole doctor thing was annoying.
Like why the heck was she given an internal exam at every single ob interview???
I usually can ignore annoying birth/ pregnancy stereotypes in funny movies, but mess with breastfeeding and I'm super pissed.
I don't know much about the movie but I like the way it looks.

My dh and I saw it today and he cried at the end. It was a really sweet movie.
He also cried at Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I cried at the first Land before time movie...happy movies make us cry!

One of my favorite lines from the movie:

"I love my children, why would I want to PUSH them away from me?"
-said by the "crunchy" mama in response to receiving a stroller as a gift.

I knew as soon as they brought that in the house, she would say something! LOL

Ive never laughed so hard!

I saw it yesterday. I loved it! The Maggie Gyllenhaal scenes were hilarious--my favorite part of the movie. You've got to be able to laugh at yourself (and your community) sometimes, right?

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a total crunchy mom, too, which made me hope the teasing would be good-natured. I'm still waiting to hear more from people to see if it seems too harsh or not. I'm not giving my money to people who really disrespect me.

It does look like a really good movie, though.

The thing is, the Gyllenhaal character is really extreme. I mean, I nurse my 2 yo, wear my babies, and share a family bed with my 2 yo and 8 yo, but I didn't recognize myself in Gyllenhaal's character. For one thing, I have tact and boundaries

I enjoyed the movie a lot, in part because I've never seen a movie that so accurately captured the moment I'm at in my life right now. It's not the best movie I've ever seen, but it is sweet and funny and enjoyable.
