Do guinea pigas and hamsters get along?

We are going to buy a house this fall (fingers crossed) and we already have a very sweet lovable hamster, Sniffy. My kids also want to get 2 guinea pigs when we get house. Will the animals tolerate each other?

They absolutely will NOT. Please don't try to put them together. They'll fight until the bloody end. GPs get along with SOME rabbits, cats and dogs but rarely will another rodent tolerate them. Hamsters are best solitary, as they don't even much like each other for long.

Thank you! I've been to those links before (or similar) and that's what made us decide to wait until we get a house s we can have 2 and a very large cage.

I was not planning on putting the animals together. Just wondering if they would like to be near each other or not. Not I guess.

Oh my gosh I love guinea pigs! :

We had one when I was a kid (obviously we didn't know much about them, 'cause otherwise we would've had another one to keep him company). He was an Abyssinian - they look like they have cowlicks all over their body. So cute.

I love the squeee noise they make when they see food coming!

They can be in the same room together, but don't have the cages so close that the hamster can reach through and nip the pigs. Because they will.

You will LOVE your pigs! I've had them constantly since I was 5, even in my college dorm. We have 2 girls now and they're such great pets!

I second the guineapigcages.com!! I went to a sign store for the bottom of the cage and already had the wire shelving. So easy and so roomy!!
