Excuses to eat junk food

"We're all gonna die anyway" is what I was told today when a co worker brought Tim Horton donuts in and I refused to have one. When I refused he questioned me (in a joking way) so I told him I only eat real food. That's when he said it.

What would your reply to such a statement be?

"You're right, but not everyone lives."

"Yes, thats true. I'm more interested in my quality of life while I'm alive and kickin'!"

"Are you seriously trying to peer presure me into eating a doughnut!?!" (laughing and shaking head)

Mmmmmmmmm Tim Hortons. I live in a tiny village and the nearest Timmy's is 45 min away. Ice Capps are my guilty pleasure. (With extra cream!!! ) I get one about once every 2-3 months, and enjoy every last drop of it.

The doughnuts are crap though. They don't even taste good, it's like eating glazed cardboard. :

I believe there is always room in my diet for a little junk food.

That said, I wouldn't waste the calories on an inferior donut.

Exactly. And if I have that donut today, someone's going to try to push cake on me tomorrow, then something else the next day, etc. I have to say no to something pretty much every day at work.

This is the kind of attitude that drives me nuts. I am only saying I LOOK like I NEVER eat a morsel of junk to make a point and because, well I am fit, and I hate self righteousness that puts other peoples choices down no matter how bad they are. I live at the gym, I have 15% bodyfat and I'm the most modest unsnobbish person alive.

But when someone brings donuts, you say "oh, no thanks." And when you forget politeness and refuse (your words not mine) and that person feels probably ashamed an embarrased for the horrible food choices and says something funny and sarcastic to try to save face, and then you make another comment about how you only eat "real" food that's obviously a complete insult to this person as he is holding donuts obviously with intention of eating them.

Lead by example not by insults. I would be embarrased to publicly admit that I humiliated another person's eating habits. There's a way to say things and a way not to

I didn't mention anywhere exactly how I 'refused'. It's an ongoing problem in my office - I have to refuse on an almost daily basis. I only tell people that I eat real food when they try to push things on me. If anyone's eating habits were publicly humiliated it was mine.

i think joking is probably the way to go. i really like the idea of replying something along the lines of "are you trying to peer pressure me?" because it shows they are acting silly without being offensive, i think. or you could fudge it and say you have allergies, but then you have to stick by it. that stinks that you are feeling really pressured though.

why not- "no thanks, i dont like donuts"

i think saying "i only eat real food" is just as rude as trying to force junk on someone.... jmo

both seem kinda extreme for an everyday office interaction.... is snack time always that aggressive?
