Does anyone know if COSI still has the circumcision exhibit?

I went to COSI in Columbus, OH with DS a couple of years ago. They had a video display of a circumcision being performed on an infant, along with videos of several other common surgeries. It was disgusting - there was no sound except for nice music and the soothing voice-over, explaining basically what was going on. The part where the foreskin was separated from the glans was cut out and I noticed several other cuts as well. I wrote to COSI complaining about the sanitization of the video and how it's normalizing an unnecessary surgery on an unconsenting person and that I wouldn't come back as long as that display was still up. They never responded (of course).

My sister's in from CA and DS and I are going to Columbus to see her. I need a backup activity in case it rains and we can't go to the zoo. COSI would be great, but I won't go if they still have the exhibit up. Has anyone been recently that could tell me if they still have that on display?

Wow, I totally forgot about that exhibit until I read this post. I saw that at COSI a long time ago, I must have been in my early to mid teens, and remembered being grossed out because I felt like they where portraying circumcision in an acceptable light.
I have no clue if it is still up though...

I'm from around that area but I don't live there anymore. Maybe you can call and ask them? That is really sick that they would put that up!

I bet you would have gotten more effect if you wrote a letter about being offened by seeing real surgery, and not being able to protect your kids from it, or something about having a daughter and her being upset from seeing a penis.

You would get a thousand sorrys and maybe if a couple people did it they would consider taking it down.

I stumbled upon a blog entry about a homeschool fieldtrip to COSI in June 2008 and the circ video exhibit was mentioned (and also how gross it was). So, yeah, I'd say it is still being displayed

Will someone tell me what a COSI is?

COSI= center of science and industry its like a cross between a museum and a playground of science. I guess its just an Ohio thing, I never really thought about it. When we were kids they have a truck that comes around and does natural wonders type of displays and interactive games, like making giant bubbles, balancing on tight wires, seeing how things work like lightbulbs etc. Generally a really cool place. I'm surprised they would 'risk' something controversial like circ vids.

I live in ohio and friends say it is still there.

I'm a little bit annoyed too now :

We have the same thing here, but it's called MOSI. Not sure if they have a circ'ing video. Yuck I recently made the mistake of watching a circ video while researching some anti-circ websites (I am very against circ'ing and want to support the anti-circ movement) and I was sickened and upset all day after seeing it.

It's part of a display of different surgeries. When I was there, it was situated facing the wall and sort of in a corner, but clearly marked as a circumcision. I guess they wanted to make sure that no kids saw it who's parents didn't want them to. They're concerned enough to do that, but not concerned enough to take the display down!

Please, if you live in the area, email COSI and let them know this isn't appropriate!
