Going coverless - explain how?

DD is at the stage (almost 16 mo) where sometimes she wants her diapers OFF. I thought maybe a good compromise might be prefolds going coverless. But what I don't understand - when they pee, does it just soak whatever they're sitting on/standing on? I've got several prefolds, it might be a nice break in the pocket routine for her.

Soak? No. Dampen? Probably. If they're going to be sitting someplace for a long time, you might want to put a towel or a pad down.

Without the cover you'll notice sooner when they've wet so the dipes tend not to get as wet.

Heh, I guess it's me who sits around alot. DD never sits for any length of time unless it's in the car. So, that makes sense!

True, I guess that would be so.

Now, here's hoping she won't yank the snappi off!

PLEASE, if you're going to use a prefold coverless on a baby over 3 months, PLEASE pin, don't Snappi. The Snappi will cause an accident.

I have heard about folding the diapers backward on babe so the snappi is on the back. Thats way there is no yanking of the snappi.

Snappis w/o a cover can be dangerous. The bottom hook will rip everything up. I've ripped holes in my shirts and drew blood on myself. I have one snappi that has the bottom hook cut off for coverless use.

Going coverless with a prefold works great with a prefold belt.

IME it takes at least two pees to soak through the prefold so if you're holding baby on your lap you might want to change after the first pee so the second one doesn't make your leg damp. This has been my only concern about going coverless.

i think it depends on how often you're used to changing. if you're worried about the couch getting a little damp, or the rug, don't do it. if you don't mind changing after the first pee and are willing to risk a bit of dampness, go for it. ill probably let dd go coverless more often when she is out of the tiny baby peeing every two seconds phase, lol.

I just tried it for the first time today. I made a prefold belt out of an old sock and elastic, it took about 20 minutes and I just sewed it by hand.

I used it with a flat diaper not a prefold and it soaked on the first pee. Fortunately she was sitting on the wool blanket on the bed so the mattress didn't get damp.

But from now on I will have her on the wood floor when she is going coverless.

We are doing it to help with potty awareness so we can start ECing when the time feels right. Also, when she is rashy, it is nice for letting her breathe without getting dust in her little bum.
