Prefolds and covers kit frustrations...anyone else?

My original intent five years ago, as you all know, was to find the one right system, buy the diapers, and get on with my life.

Of course there is no such thing as a "one right" system, but I like prefolds and wraps perfectly well, and it would simplify my life to be able to buy a kit of them.

I like Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, Bummis Super Snap Wraps, Blue Penguin Wrap 'n Snaps, and Mother-ease Rikki Wraps all quite well, enough to use them happily. And Proraps aren't half bad either. I never had a leak with any of these and dd never got rashy as long as we didn't go too long between changes.

You'd think it'd be easy to buy a diaper package, then, but it just isn't. I know this baby won't necessarily be sized or shaped like dd, but I still feel the need to at least start with what worked for her, and the normal prefold sizes did NOT. By the time the infant prefolds were not too bulky in length, they were too small around the waist. By the time the premium prefolds were not too bulky overall, she had grown into toddler prefolds. So what I feel the need to get are newborn, regular, and toddler sizes, skipping the infants and premiums altogether. But the sizes I want seem like they're the hardest to find, and they never come in a package with covers...besides which I do have a slight preference for snaps over Velcro, and that's harder to find too.

I would love to find a package deal and press the button instead of hunting for things singly, all over the Internet. Do things like the Bummis kit really work well for most people most of the time and dd was just an exception?

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a library cataloger in my real, non-diapering life, which means I often spend my days figuring out whether this book is a mystery novel or a suspense novel, and whether it was written by the John Smith born on March 1, 1963 or the John Smith born on May 30, 1963, and whether it takes place in London (England) or England -- London, and whether it qualifies as a Bildungsroman, and so on. And, um, I love my job. I think what I want to do is catalog all the diapers on the Internet.

Really you didnt use the infant size? I used those up until my dd was in the premium, and even with her at 26 lbs and 2 1/2 they are still pretty big on her.

Crazy.

Ok so what about just ordering bummis wraps and then your diffrent sizes of prefolds?

What are you looking for exactly? I love a good scavenger hunt. LOL!

With dd I used Kissaluvs for the first few weeks before switching to prefolds, because the prefolds were so big on her at birth. But she grew very fast. I was using the prefolds with a Snappi and by the time she was 6 weeks old I couldn't get the Snappi to fit around the waist any more on the infant size. But the premiums were insanely huge on her. So I got regulars, and those fit until she started outpeeing them shortly before turning 2, at which point she was big enough for the toddler size.

I think the infant size would have fit longer if I had been pinning or trifolding. I just didn't like the insecure Snappi fastening.

My dream diaper package would consist of 3 dozen DSQ prefolds in newborn-regular-toddler and 6 to 8 wraps--Blue Penguin wrap 'n snaps are my favorites but they're not widely available so let's just say BSWW--in newborn, small, medium, large. I don't think this exists. Usually you'll get 2 dozen prefolds in infant and premium and 4 wraps in small and medium.

I'm not actually going to buy anything right now, but I wish I could organize the baby registry in a way that is a little less crazymaking to my library cataloger brain.

Hm...what fold do you use for your prefolds?

Try here maybe. They have a pretty good selection, and they do bundle packages and discounts.

greenmountaindiapers.com has the newborn size which IMO are perfect before infants don't fit. IF you have small babies, they even have a preemie size.

I love Diaperware, but they don't even sell the regular size. I also love Green Mountain Diapers although I already have some Kissaluvs so I'm less concerned about newborn diapering this time around. I know I would love the orange-edged though.
