watering plants w/ dishwater?

Does anyone do this? My father swears by it, that it is good and kills the germs. (This came up because I told him I didn't want him to run the dishwater pipes to the plants on the property we are going to build and plant on, I don't mind it going to other none-eating plants).

My thing is that it will kill the good germs and nutritional stuff too and not to mention it is a chemical thing.

I water my flowers with my mop water, which is water, a little dishsoap and a little vinegar. They love it.

I guess that would depend on what you wash your dishes with. I don't know much about it, but I can't imagine most commercial dish soaps being any good for plants.

I think the general rule is to only apply grey water to non-edibles. also, I think it would depend on what type of soap you use as well coz I have heard of peoples plants dying.

What germs? If the soap kills germs, it's not soap you want in the soil around your plants especially if you are going to eat them.
