she only has 2 uppers and 3 lowers, so for a new tooth to come in this far back on the top seems highly unusal. It's swollen MUCH more than normal for any tooth. Do you recommend seeing a Doctor? Dentist? Or do you think there is something we should try before we even go?

TIA

never ceases to amaze me that 30 people can look at a thread, where a mom (me in this case) is pleading for help, and no responses, even days later. I'm glad that my other mom board responded... even if it's just local moms and not ap moms.

Could be a 1yr molar out of order. It does happen. Have you noticed any change over the past couple of days?

With both of my kids there would often be a lump for some time before the tooth actually came through.

You can see her incisors getting ready to come in too. I never looked back there when DD1 was teething but I never felt something that looked that swollen. Can you feel the sharp edges trying to poke through? If it were me and she was miserable and in pain, I would keep some motrin in her. If it doesn't try to poke through in the next couple of days- I would call the pedi if she continues to be in distress. Fill her up with Popsicles the next couple of days - a great way to keep the cold on it.

I would give her a dose of Motrin and if the pain and swelling doesn't subside in the next day or so I would contact a pediatric dentist.

I ended up giving her tylenol on 3 occasions. I talked to my husband's dentist Saturday, don't know if he's ped or not. I need to find one tomorrow though! One of my friends suggested teething tablets that are homeopathic, anyone have any idea about those? She's doing much better today finally! Seeing your baby in pain (she was even vomiting Friday night) is the most horrible part of parenting! I can't stand it!

Thanks for responding! :

I gave all three of my kiddos teething tablets and they did seem to help. I also have nothing to compare them to though. I know they had an easier time than my sisters kids who ran fevers, etc.

the little one my mom nannies for has this happen for EVERY tooth. Poor thing it looks so awful and painful. I would do motrin if she is in a lot of pain. Hope she feels better soon!

Sorry mama. I know it is hard seeing your LO in pain!. I use homeopathic teething drops exclusively for teething. Works great for my 14 month old. I prefer the drops to the tablets. Those never worked as well for us.

The drops are called Gentle Naturals and they are made by Disney I believe. Got them at Walgreens
