Bill Gates gives 50M for circumcision

Hey all, I know there have been some discussions about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on here, but on another of my intactivist groups, someone posted this link. Apparently, Bill Gates has given 50 million dollars to fund mass circumcision programs in Africa to prevent the transmission of HIV and AIDS. I messaged someone on the committee that it was going to backfire, because when people think they are vaccinated they will have more unprotected sex. She said that concern had been brought up in committee but they hadn't addressed it. ???

I've been a MAC girl my whole life, but this definitely seals the deal...and just for clarification, it is not 50K but 50 million! I mean, 50 million in circumcision funds...how many condoms could that buy?!?!

How about 50million (why does anyone have that much money while a billion people are starving in our world) towards clean water, food, education and yes CONDOMS. There is so little I can say about this that won't violate the UA. I've been thinking about this since it was posted and the more I ponder it the more outraged I am becoming.

I definitely don't agree with this because it's not a well-thought out idea

...but I hope that they are done in clean, safe facilities at the least.

50,000,000/0.03 ~= 1,666,666,666 so about 1.6 billion condoms. If there were 1,000,000 men ($50 dollars per circumcision) they could have gotten 1,700 condoms. 1 day for about 5 years, 1 every other day for about 10 years, or perhaps enough just for the weekends for perhaps 20 years. Good use of that money...

ETA: And Linux here, currently Ubuntu distro. I haven't bought a MS product in a long time.

I have no doubt that problem will be completely ignored. There will also be decreasing interest and quality of any 'additional measure' because nobody wants to waste that kind of time.

Wow....just wow. Yes, this truly is a crying shame. We need to get a wealthy intactivist over there spreading true information and educating on safe sex as a (and the only true) HIV/AIDS prevention
