Can children get a Medical Clearance through the State Department without being vaccinated?

I am excited about a new career opportunity with USAID what would mean that I would be living overseas, more than likely in countries in Africa. Of Course, I would want to take my children. However, I have chosen not to vaccinate them here in the states. I am now concerned that they may not get a medical clearance if they do not have vaccines. The other concern would be that I would not be able to use the same waivers that I have used in the states to register for school. They would be attending private American schools while we are overseas.

Are there any families out there who have been able to get medical clearances through the state department for thier unvaccinated children? Also, have there been any problems with using the religious exemption to register unvaccinated children in American private schools overseas?

Gosh, I have the same question. I hope someone can answer this for us. My DH is considering the foreign service and I'm nervous that it might mean I have to vaccinate. Everything I've read indicates that this might be a sticking point for medical clearance. They would just say that my DH would have to serve without us, which isn't acceptable to us. But I would like to hear from someone with experience with the process.

Please keep us posted as you go through the process!

It is good to know that I am not alone on this issue. Let's continue to keep each other informed as we seek out information on this and also as we go through the Medical Clearance process. Thank you
