Toddler book recommendation

Hello, this is my first time posting. I looked at the list of recommended books and am finding it a bit daunting! So many look good and in time I want to read many... but maybe someone can give some advice on narrowing down my choices! I'd like one good one to start with.

My daughter is almost 2 years old and I've never used any kind of discipline per se (once I sat her on the couch for repeatedly stepping on something I told her not to but she had no idea what was going on). I am not a fan of time-outs and never any hitting of any kind. Lately, she has started crying and carrying on when she doesn't get her way. For now I just hold her while she cries, wait until she's done and then quickly explain that I understand and why it has to be so -- and move on to a distraction. Each book I see has it's own approach. I don't like the "just ignore it" approach, and am looking for an author who comes from an AP-style point-of-view. Any thoughts on a book that helped you? Or any advice in general? Thanks!

The only one on the list that I've read is The Discipline Book by Dr. Sears. I'm currently reading The Successful Child, also by Dr. Sears. They are both great - very similar to each other. I am looking for another recommendation, as well. There is one written by Hilary Flowers that looks good, but I haven't read it and did not see it on the list. Hope you get lots more advice!
