Prefold question and washing

Ladies, I got my prefolds 2 weeks ago!!!!!!! Can you tell how excited I am????
I ordered Unbleached Indian from a local WAHM. I think that I did something wrong in the washing process though . . . . . I went with Indian because I read that they were softer. I washed about 5 times, drying in the dryer after every two washes and then on the clothes line for the last dry. They are pilly already!!!!!!!! I washed them by themselves. I was quite disappointed at myself for ruining them, but then I realized that they work just the same. I'm just upset because I spent quite a bit of money of these PFs, and I was really planning on keeping them in good condition for the next child. What did I do wrong???????

You did nothing wrong. I've never had pilly prefolds so maybe it's the type of fabric the wahm is using? Pilliness aside - they will be softer out of the drier (I line dry min anyway)...... They will still work and be fine for #2. You can ask the wahm where she got her cotton from to compare to others and if she has a pilling problem. I'm sorry you are upset - but it shouldn't matter for practical purposes! I am assuming these are 100% cotton - if they aren't that might help explain pilling. Okay - so I had no answers but here's a hug.

This WAHM came very highly recommended, especially on diaperpin.com.
Yes, they are 100% cotton, and I know that they soften with each wash, but mine are not soft at all. I am wondering if I just got an off batch of them. I didn't want to email and complain, but when I think about it, I guess I should at least email her to tell her so that she can try ot find out what happened. I hate complaining You are right . . . they are still prefectly usable

How many prefolds do you wash at one time? I have found (and read from others) that washing/drying more than roughly 2 dozen prefolds at one time will cause the fabric to get fuzzy. Try to wash fewer prefolds at a time...:

I only washed 12 per wash, just because I am that anal about things, LOL

Update

So I tried to contact where I bought from, asking whether they had any other complaints . . . I was told that I needed to wash on hot and dry on high heat. It totally did NOT answer my question. If anything I could see the pilliness coming from using the dryer, but I didn't use the drier, I hung them out on the line. Lesson learned . . . I guess I don't buy from this company again Thanks for trying to help ladies!
