Dwarf meyer lemon tree - need help

I planted a dwarf meyer lemon tree a little over a month ago. Since doing so, the leaves are turning yellow, falling off and some of the new lemon buds are black and falling off. I thought maybe I was over watering but even sticking my finger down deep into the soil, it seems pretty dry. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. There hasn't been much sun this spring which is odd for our area. All my other veggies and fruit are doing great. Any ideas?

Meyers are extremely picky, and will only thrive if all their conditions are just right.

Have you fed it, or was the soil amended before you planted? And trees need plenty of water just after transplanting, just like any other plant. Do you have an animal that's been "watering" it? Any of those could cause that kind of reaction.

I do have two dogs back there, so that's possible. I mixed Dr. Earth citrus fertilizer into our soil when I planted it but have not fed it. I did water plenty after transplant but have slowed down because of the leaves turning yellow. I got this tree for Mothers day & really want it to survive.

Meyer lemon trees love heat and tons of light I am pretty sure. Maybe it is just a bit early in the season for it, or it prefers a hotter climate?

I live in southern cali- weather shouldn't be much of the problem

Maybe test your soil to see if it's what the tree prefers?

I'm totally baffled though becuase so cal is like citrus heaven.
