I had everything laid out and planted neatly in rows by seed type like I do every year. Then the rains came. Then I got pretty sick for a couple weeks. So I have 1'-2' tall weeds throughout the entire plot and have been working this week to get rid of them and try to spare the plants I want there (which are doing surprisingly well, considering!). It's also been quite a week of discovery though too! Most of the corn stayed in place, though I'm finding it randomly throughout the rest of the garden. All but 3 tomato plants "migrated" to the other side of the plot entirely! The patch where the green beans were planted is completely bare, with green bean plants edging the area and over by where the tomato plants were supposed to be. Peas are all over the place. The lettuce and radishes are the only things that stayed put! In a 12" space I have a tomato plant, a pea plant and a corn stalk! It's crazy! Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm assuming some of the hard rains we got shortly after planting made a soup of the seeds and spread them around for me....

I've never seen that happen, but then I'm a relative newbie to gardening. Your post did give me quite a chuckle though! I think its amazing what Mother Nature can do when left alone. At least most everything is thriving and growing! What a fun story to tell later when you are munching on some sweet corn, peas, and tomatoes from the garden.

We had extensive flooding last June, and my garden came up with similar surprises for me.
I left some things where they were, and carefully transplanted others to the bare spots. My garden didn't look as tidy as it has in past seasons, but it did just fine.
Good luck with your newly randomized plot!

How funny! This just happened to me too. I was checking out some of my spinach today and noticed a tall weed mixed in it. I went to pluck it out when I realized it was a cucumber plant! They are about 4 feet apart (well they're supposed to be), but I think the rains pushed the seeds off their hill and into my spinach. I also have a really messy section of herbs. They're all over the place.

I think my spinach just completely washed away both times I seeded it.
