UTI, disposable vs. cloth

Hi guys-
I love my happy heiney diapers, but ever since dd started on solids, there is a smell that won't come out. I have stripped them, bleached the inserts, I hang them out to dry at least every other wash (depending on the weather). They still smell.

Anyways, my dd (1 year) got her first UTI and I wonder if it could be from lingering bacteria in my coth? Anyone heard about this before?

Would it be better to use disposables? I just don't know what to do.

I REALLY don't want her to go through that again, it was awful.

Any input would be great.

no-one with any such experience?

Hmm... No, I have cd'ed three girls so far and no UTI's.

I am not sure disposables would be better as they contain chemicals which could react harshly with her if she is having problems.

You could probably boil your inserts and then start adding tto to your wash routine.

I would also suggest leaving the inserts and diapers out in the bright sun for a day or two. The sun is the world's best disinfectant. A couple days should kill any lingering bacteria.

Are you using any type of diaper rash cream that could be causing build up on the diaper itself?

I have tried hanging them for 2 sunny days and the smell (and I assume the bacteria) is still there.

The only time I use diaper cream is at night with a disposable.

But I guess if no one has heard of this correlation, I think I should be fine with my cloth. I will try boiling the inserts and stripping the covers again and hanging them out to dry for a few days.

Thanks

Also, do you think changing to organic prefolds would be worth it? I am using the Happy Heiney one size with the terry inserts. I really would like to continue with cloth, preferably the ones I already have.

Thanks

If you really want to get a new prefold or insert I would go with hemp because they are naturally anti-microbial. I really do prefer the hemp inserts better than the micro ones and they don't seem to have the problems with hold the smell as much.

I have to ask, with a UTI under age 1, has the doctor tested her for VUR? Honestly, I wouldn't think cloth dipes would contribute significantly to a UTI, so I'd be looking to make sure there were no underlying structural abnormalities before assuming it was the dopes. I hope she doesn't have any more trouble!
