(redoing thread...) Tetanus only or a TD shot??

I must have a tet. shot for nursing school. I went to the dr today and they didn't have any tet. toxoid, just TD and DTaP. I inquired further and at first the dr didn't know there was such a thing. Then she called the pharmacy and they said they think there is one called Hyper-Tet (I *think* that was the name) that they can order. I checked the net when I came home and Hyper-Tet is not a vax, it's the Tig they give you when you have an injury.

I know I've read here that there IS a tet. only vax. If so, could someone please tell me what it is? I'm coming up w/ nothing when I google.

edited to add: I forgot all about mercury content! Hmmm....are there less risks associated with Td that has no merc., or less w/ plain T with merc? Should I just go ahead and get the Td instead?

Yes there is a tetanus only vaccine called the Tetanus Toxoid or Tetanus Toxoid absorbed (both are made by sonafi pasteur)

This vaccine still contains 25 micrograms of mercury..just an FYI (look about 1/4 way down)

Just FYI, I used a relig. exemption for nursing school no problems.

I agree..Id try for the exemption first....both vaxes have their risks. With the Td you are exposing yourself to 2 different pathogens at once. This would never happen in nature. The Td also contains "trace" amount of mercury, aluminum and formaldehyde.

As far as I know, they won't let me use an exemption. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I will have to get some sort of tet. shot. Now I'm just trying to decide which one.... I go back Thursday for my tb results, so if I finally decide on the TD I'll probably just have it done then...

Have you actually tried filing an exemption?? It sounds like you have already made up your mind. Good Luck in your choice
