Dr. Oz on Oprah

This is one of the times that I am relieved my husband does not watch Oprah. Dr. Oz is on today and there was a brief segment on circumcision. He basically said the decision was up to parents but cited some negative information for the circing. He said you had to keep an intact penis very clean and hinted that circed penises were much easier to care for. He also hinted that intact penises were more likely to harbor disease. No wonder America is so confused on this issue. Very frustrating to watch.

Yeah, I dont even watch Oprah, but whenever I see a clip of him on her show he seems to always sleep in some positive points about circing.

I think this was a rerun I know we've discussed this before.

Dr Oz did about a 10-15 min segment on circumcision on Oprah in October 2007, I think. If he demo'd how to clean an intact penis with a cucumber and a tube sock. then it's probably a rerun of it. I wrote him a long critique at the time. WIsh they wouldn't keep showing it.

Wow, what parent wouldn't be weirded out by keeping an intact baby if they used a cucumber and a tube sock to describe it, how disgusting. Whats next some small slabs of raw fish stapled to a paper coffee cup to describe the female genitalia?

His statements on circ are always shamefully ignorant (or shamefully biased). He talks up the nonexistent benefits of circ and refers to the foreskin as having "corners". Much like on "The Doctors", accurate information is nowhere to be found and the whole subject of what is actually painful and unnecessary mutilation is treated as a trivial joke. I also wrote a lengthy critique to the show's site a while back, but such comments sometimes have a curious habit of going unposted...

corners?

A lot of us here wrote letters to the Oprah show or Dr. Oz himself, when this show first aired. This is the second time it has been rerun to my knowledge. Each time it comes out, I think they need to keep getting feedback about it, so if this is the first time you've seen it, please write them, and ask them to stop airing it unless they can do a better job at discussing the foreskin and not circumcising in a positive manner, and include the facts on the foreskin's sexual functions and a discussion of the ethical issues of performing unnecessary surgery on non-consenting minors.
