Please help me decide!

I am so confused . . . the more I read the more confused I get. I have a week old infant and I'd like to get some kind of wrap/sling to carry him in and I have no idea what to get. Is there one out there that seems to be superior for a newborn? I have three other children that I'm constantly chasing around so having baby attached securely to me is what I need. Maybe even one to nurse in???? Please help!

Thanks!

What kind of wrap or sling you have?, Can you describe it for us?. You can see many videos of baby carriers, slings ( ring slings and pouches), wraps, Soft Structured Carriers, Mei tais, etc., in You Tube. For a newborn I love Ring Slings (Maya wraps).

I would suggest a stretchy wrap, Moby, Sleepy Wrap, or a Bali Baby Stretch. They are easy to use, just tie it on and "pop" baby in. They are fairly inexpensive around $50 or so. Ringslings to me have a higher learning curve (more difficult to learn to use). A Mei tai is also very easy, but not as supportive as a wrap for a newborn. Good luck mama!

My favorite for a newborn for using around the house is a ring sling. I have a Maya Wrap ring sling. It does have a higher learning curve (I know a lot of people who give up on it) but I have learned to get it really secure and comfy and it is the BEST thing I've used for a baby sleeping and waking and sleeping--you can adjust it easily to go from one position to the next. It is also nice to be able to easily shift the baby away from front and center on my body. I do this a lot with my 7 month old while I'm cooking and want to keep her to the side, away from hot things! Or when I want to lift something with two hands or...you get the idea.

My other favorite carrier is a Moby Wrap type sling. It was really cheap to make my own--I bought 5 yds of stretchy cotton knit at the fabric store and cut it into 3 strips 20 inches wide (I sold 2 to friends and kept 1) and looked at the moby website and youtube videos for instructions. That one I prefer for outside walks as it has better weight distribution. This matters more as the baby gets heavier. It takes longer to put on but probably has a smaller learning curve. My husband prefers to use the moby wrap over the maya wrap, if that's any consideration for you.

My conclusions--if you're up for watching the DVD and practicing and experimenting, get a Maya Wrap ring sling. If not, get (or make) a Moby. Happy baby wearing!
