Which marking tools do you use when working with felt?

Hi, I am making some felt play food using 100% wool felt. I was just wandering what marking tools you use when working with felt? The only marking tool I have in my sewing kit is a dressmakers chalk pencil which is not showing up on the coloured felt and I can't see where I'm sewing!
Any suggestions of a fine-tipped marking tool (some of the areas of the pattern are quite detailed) which will work on and show-up sufficiently on the brightly coloured felt would be great. Thank you!

They used to make washable markers for sewing? Could you borrow from the kids?

I don't do anything super-complicated but I have found a sharp pencil works for me. On super-dark stuff it's not as good, but usually I can see enough to be able to cut out whatever I'm working on.

I've used permanent markers (felt tipped marking pens) on felt before, but that was used to accent the design, not used in construction.

These wouldn't wash out, but depending upon what you need them to do that might work.

I also have a washable felt tipped marking pen that I got in the quilting section at JoAnn Fabrics that I use when sewing. I haven't tried it on felt at all but I imagine it'd work about as well as my permanent markers do.

I love the "Ultimate Marker" by American Crafts company. It is acid free and permanent, works on paper as well as felt and comes a fine and medium point and also in a variety of colors. I select a shade slightly darker that the felt I am working with.
