Homemade castile soap?

I've just learned you can make your own castile soap. Has anyone on here done it? Can you share your recipe? Does it work out cheaper than buying Dr Bronners?

Thanks!

Yes, you can. But Dr Bonner's is actually not a pure Castile soap. A true Castile is 100% Olive Oil, Bonner's is a blend soap.

Personally I have not made my own liquid soap from scratch because it seems far more difficult/involved in comparison to bar soap. But then I am also much more familiar with making bar soap and to me it isn't that difficult, so it might just be comfort.

As for price, soap making can be a bit expensive at the beginning as you first gather your supplies, but over the long run once you know what you are doing and you are regularly producing good soap it is more cost effective to buying.

I agree--people tend to make it look as though making bar soap is hard, and i haven't failed yet. Even my baby soap batch that looks like a bunch of rice krispie treats--it's ugly, but it works!

Liquid soap, however, is a longer process that i haven't gotten around to yet. Thing is, you can use bar soap for just about anything you'd use liquid soap for. We're used to the convenience of liquid soap, but it's really not necessary in most instances.

What did you want to use the castile for?

I wanted to use it to put in a solution for cloth wipes. I've been using plain water but it just doesn't get the pee smell off her in the morning.
