I am looking for chapter book suggestions for my 6 yr old DD. we have read Clementine, The Magic Treehouse Series and some Junie B. Jones ( I try to steer away from the negativity of those books, but my DD is interested so I edit them as I read.)

My 6 yo loves the Rainbow Magic series - each series is a set of 7 books - the Jewel Fairies, the Rainbow Fairies, the Sporty Fairies etc.... she can read them over and over.

She also loves the new Mermaid S.O.S series.

She also really enjoys Cam Jansen, Nancy Drew (there is an early chapter book version called Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew) and Judy Moody.

Are these to read aloud? I thnk books like Rainbow Magic, Junie B. and Magic Treehouse are really designed for kids to read to themselves, so the sentences are short and they're kind of boring for the grown-up. If you're reading to them, you can use more challenging books than they can read on their own.

Some great read-alouds for six-year-olds -- at least, they were hits for us:

The Doll People series
Indian in the Cupboard
Stuart Little
Misty of Chincoteague
No Flying in the House
Mr. Popper's Penguins
The Tales of Olga da Polga (also Paddington series, same author)
The Edward Eager books about magic
Pippi Longstocking
Peter Pan
Just-So Stories
Ramona and Henry Huggins series -- Beverly Cleary is so wonderful!
The Wizard of Oz -- I love all the sequels, but DD burnt out on it after about the fourth book
The early Little House on the Prairie books -- the first three are all great for younger kids, the fourth is pretty sad in parts
Eloise and Eloise at Christmastime
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Fairy tales of all kinds, and Greek myths
At six, she still really loved picture books as well, and we read a lot of Kevin Henkes, the Madeline books, and Chris Van Allsburg

My daughter didn't go for Rootabaga Stories, Mary Poppins, Tom's Midnight Garden, Toys Go Out, or the Boxcar Children, but I'll throw those in in case your kid is different.

Thalia has some good suggestions. At 5, my DD really liked No Flying in the House, Pippi Longstocking, Peter Pan, Little House in the Big Woods, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (and all the other Narnia books.)

Some other suggestions:
My Father's Dragon (and the sequels)
Jenny and the Cat Club
the Catwings series
Charlotte's Web
Winnie-the-Pooh
Alice in Wonderland
Tove Jansson's Moomin books (Comet in Moominland is the first one)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Secret Garden
A Little Princess
Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle
The Children of Noisy Village
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
American Girl books
The Princess and the Goblin
books by Dick King-Smith

If your and your kid are okay with some violence and/or scary stuff:
Ronia the Robber's Daughter
The Brothers Lionheart
The Jungle Book
The Silver Crown
the Harry Potter books
Coraline

I can't BELIEVE I forgot about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Also, lots of other Roald Dahl.

Tale of Despereaux
Charlotte's Web
The Littles
Cricket in Times Square

If your daughter enjoyed the MTH stories, A-Z Mysteries by Ron Roy and the Capital Mystery series are cute.
