I want my laundry to smell yummy!

I make my own laundry soap to save money and so that I have something gentle for our skin. However, I really really miss the wonderful smell of clean clothes and linens. Even drying everything on the line smells different than it used to.

I know that some people add essential oils to their soaps but will that really make a big impact? I also do not want it to be that costly.

Also, my towels are very hard to get to smell good.

I use TTO and Lavender EO in my laundry soap. While there isn't a "smell" of the EOs there is definatly a fresh smell to them. I used 30 drops of each for a 6 gallon batch that I made. I will add more next time I think. Just for more scent.
As for cost. TTO cost me $7 and I think $12 for the lavender, but it goes a LOOOONNNNNGGGG way. I use the two oils for everything with the wipes water for the baby, scenting my homemade cleaners, dashed onto the air filter for the house when company is coming over or I feel like a boost, in my facial toner - the list goes on and on, and the tiny bottles are still pretty full and I've had them 6months now.

I love the smell of commercial laundry detergent perfumes, for real. Like Tide, mmmmmm... but I know how bad it is for us so I do make my own detergent but I am in the same quandary as you. I add EO, but it doesn't seem to "last" as in, it smells while in the detergent, but not when the clothes come out (maybe the detergent works *that* good lol).

Maybe I am not using enough?

well, if you were drying in the dryer I'd say try some EO on a cloth, like a dryer sheet. Since you're line drying, have you thought of sachets in your drawers? I like to keep a sachet in my linen closet, so keep it from smelling stale. I use some store-bought sachet that some one had given me, and they have lasted FOREVER. as in, 2, 3 years. Maybe a clean cloth with some EO would serve the same purpose?

And this right here is the reason I don't make our own laundry soap. I love the smell of Gain too much.

i've been putting vinegar with several drops of EO into the compartment of the washing machine where you would put fabric softener. it comes out during the last rinse cycle and does give a nice odor to the clothes (which, in turn, smells good in the dryer). it doesn't last like an artificial scent would, but it's something
